for that size tank, you have to be very very careful. you would want a heater around maybe 10 watts...25 is the smallest ive seen, and that would boil your poor fish....with that little water, you would have to keep a very close eye on the temp....you may be better off just keeping the tank in a warm room?

My parents like the house cold at night..brrr...i will look to see what the smallest size they have is. Right now I have just been keeping a towel over it..it helps a little.

check out www.drsfostersmith.com they have a small heater for tanks 2-5 gallons. I've used it for my 2.5G betta tanks before. Works very well, IMO.

I have found that heaters in very small tanks do not use the thermostat as well as in a larger body of water. Setting it at 78F may result in 82F in a smaller tank - it may be calibrated for a larger body of water. I use the smallest one I can find, and then set it lower than expected and use a separate thermometer to monitor temp.

Wal-Mart has heaters for tanks less than 5 gallons. I have one for my Betta tank, I'm not extremely happy with it, but it does the job.
PS: I think it only cost me $8.

Thank you all very much, i know this is a little late reply but i am testing one that is meant for -8 gallons, (no fish are in the tank) so hopefully this will work out.
