I've had my betta in a 5 gallon for around 8 months now... all the water params are great. i do a water change once a week. i have a whisper 5 (i think it is?) on the lowest speed. today when i went to feed him i noticed that there was a whitish/clear film covering all of the water, with his bubble nest in one corner. is this caused by the betta himself, the filter, or what? it was really quite gross. i stuck my finger in it and it all broke up into white filmy chunks. eww??! whats the deal?
thanks biggrin.gif

Well the film is usualy from the substance he uses to make his bubble nest. (in english terms: betta spit) I see this alot with female community tanks when they release eggs. Just scoop the top film off when you do water changes.

I was wondering what this was as well! The whole surface is covered in it and I've been doing water changes every other day lately. Orchard is a very spitty betta biggrin.gif

Ha! Betta spit, that's great! I noticed it on my tank too, but I thought it was part of my nitrite problem.

Kissy -- speaking of Orchard, how is he doing?
Ponderosa Power
Orchard's doing great! His fins have grown back at least two cms so far, and no head stringies. I've been giving him metro-med just in case with the the strings, and he has been string free for a week and a half. Tomorrow is his last day of meds smile.gif
