Oh, those are cute. Off the top of my head, I know they need brackish water. I think I have an artical on them laying around somwhere...
I will look for it for you.

might as well be 1 puffer.... 12g is small. but if you got pest snails, theyre good with eliminating those!

I've had a trio dwarfpuffers for years in a 20 gallon. A big plant and peaces of driftwood makes the tank better for them to get out of eachothers way. I fed them bloodworms and other frozen food, they will not take any pallets or dry food.
They layed there eggs in moss on driftwood and the male was very agressive in that period. My friend has them now in a large 100 gallon tank with other fish and they are not agressive. I kept them with fancy guppies and even the baby's made it.
My friend now has 3 little babies of them. The most important is that you really do not buy two males because they kill eachother. You can see the difference by looking at their belly. The male has a red stripe there. Females have more spots and a cat like colour. Males are more blended in colour and greener.
They were lovely and cute
They do not need or even stand salt (mine had lots of eggs and some babies in pure fresh water) in the water so that won't be a problem with plants. They do need live plants and lots of them to avoid fighting. Mine only chased and never bit.

if you go TRUE dwarves, their freshw ater all the way... you could prolly do 3-4, as long as you get only one male...
http://www.dwarfpuffers.comI have one in a 3... the only thing is that you cant really keep anything else with them.... and their SUPER messy!!

That's what all those sites say, but my experiences are quite different. I've had them with a breeding group of fancy guppies, no problems. My friend now keeps them with a lot of other fish and she even has three surviving babies at this moment. Already a cm long.
No problems with her killifish and tetra's nor the other fish
I think those problems start when feeding them not enough and no live foods, they really need that. When I went away for a few days I noticed a little less small baby guppies. But they never nipped fins or worse

Most people just don't feed them properly. If I stopt feeding them live bloodworms and Daphnia they would charge my fish.

lol! yeah, i spose so!!
just out of interest, do you have to fed yours frozen or live blood worms? i have tried mine on freeze dried, and they dont seem to know what to do with it!! i have some frozen in the freezer if they need it though!

Mine just loved live bloodworms. Freezdride stuff they never ate. Frozen just bloodworms but no daphnia or other frozen foods.
They are quite hard to keep but I live near a big aquarium-shop so they have it all

Aww, I thought Dwarf Puffers were so cute! I found a picture of them a couple months ago on FishProfiles.Com

I believe I looked around but nobody carries them around here. I have seen other puffers, but no Dwarves

*sigh*
Good luck with yours!!!

LoL I'm trying to remember all the info for someday in the future

*sigh* So many things to look foward to but the tank setups cost a fortune! I seen the cute little bumblebee gobies the other day and would love a few, but I would rather stick with freshwater for awhile LoL *sigh* Maybe someday

Congrads on the food! Good luck with the little puffers

I almost got dwarf puffers for my empty 12g - but I eventually decided on the killifish. I realised that I could not put many puffers in a 12g and I think they are less hardy than killis - I didn't want them to die! Also, they don't ship well and I was going to buy them from Arizona Aquatic Gardens (for anyone lloking for true dwarves). I do remember reading that they love live Daphnia - but I have been using Daphnia soup for my killis and they like that too - if live food is not always an option. Daphnia soup is terilized Daphnia in water - not forzen, must be refirgerated after opening - it is called ZooPlankton. They look like they are swimming as they float on the water current so it looks like they are alive to the fish! I think I will try dwarf puffers when I upgrade my 20g - then they can go i there!
Enjoy! THey are so unbelieveable adorable! Please post some pix!

I've actually been thinking about starting a 10 gallon puffer tank.
I'm not sure if the fish at Walmart were dwarf or figure eight puffers though.
