all of my 4 fishes in a 40 gal tank has these white stuffs on their fins , 1 of them has these white spots on the body which I suspect is ick. I am not sure what happened, they are all good couple days ago. The fin rot actually happened long ago but only on 1 fish , but not alot so I just leave her in the tank because other fishes have fins problem before and they just grow back. But today all 4 of them has the white spots on the fin , that scares me.
Ammonia level and everything has been normal. All I could do now is a 50% water change. Waiting for your advice. Thanks.

I had success using a product called Rid-Ich+ by Kordon, I
got it at Petco. Remove all the carbon out of your tank and
follow directions(for smaller fish use a smaller dose). Turn
off the tank lights and cover the tank with a towel. Yes, turn
up the heater to around 80*f. Every 3rd day syphon the bottom
for eggs. Leave everyone in the tank and treat them all. Use of
aquarium salt? varies from person to person.

You can use aquarium salt to cure ich, and it might also help stop the finrot too. To do this you need to do a large water change, then in a small glass, dissolve 1 teaspoon of the salt per gallon of your water in a little tank water. Once dissolved pour into the tank. In 12 hours add another teaspoon per gallon like before, then again in another 12 hours. Keep the tank light out, and if you ahve a heater turn the temp up to 80 by a degree a day. Keep this up for 2 weeks and they should be right as rain.
Keep a check on your water qulaity though as poor water quality is usually what causes ich and finrot in the first place. Your ammonia should be 0, nitrite 0 and nitrates below 40 (preferably under 20). If you do need to do water changes just remember to add 3 teaspoons (1 tablespoon) of salt to each gallon of new water added.

I have plants in the tank, so I would have to take those plants out if want to put salt or medicine to it ?

The salt might kill the plants so I'd move them to a bucket of water while your treating. Most medicines will say on the bottle if they hurt the plants.

Yes 40 teaspoons, dissolved in a little tank water beofre pouring in. Then 12 hours after that, add another 40 teaspoons, then another 40 teaspoons 12 hours after that. It does seem an incredible amount of salt but it wont hurt the fish.
Do you not have a smaller quarantine tank which you could move the fish to to save on the amount of salt you will need to buy?

oh sorry, I was thinking that it was just the one fish. Treat them all in their own tank then.

I have not added salt to the tank yet but I bought melafix and add 4 teaspon (40 gal tank). I also didn't remove the plants yet, don't want to make too many changes at once - Any tip/tricks on using melafix ? I heard it's good for fin rot and such. I don't really think my fishes have ick since no sign of ick (like eggs on the bottom of the tank and such).

I doubt if you would see eggs on the bottom of the tank. The signs of ich are a sprinkling of white spots which look like sugar or salt grains. The multiply rapidly.
