I'm looking into getting another betta (or two in a divided tank) and I happened upon these small Betta Bow Front Tanks. But they look WAY to small... Also a filter is out of the question. What do you guys think? Betta Home or Betta Torture Chamber?

I've seen a lot of these little betta "homes" too...but personally, I wouldn't do it. I think they should have more swimming space. It just doesn't seem right to me to expect them to just swim in circles....but that's just my

. To each his own....

No way, that thing doesn't even hold half a gallon. I would look into
buying something larger around 5 gallons.

My little guy seems really happy in his 2.5 gallon. I bought a mini-bow 2.5 aquarium kit - came with a mini Whisper filter.

It's a real shame, i think thay should post a little sign beside the betta section that says "we need to be kept in at least 1 gallon." they always have those signs with the lizards, why not fish too?

thats just cruel
how frustrating for a living creature to be kept in a space so small it can barely turn round, never mind go for a swim for some exercise
meh. fish are so mistreated.

What I have noticed once i buy a new older betta, it takes it about a week before it gets enough strenght to even swim freely! Right now i have a friend who has a betta in something close to what that is, right now I'm just tring to talk her into a 1/2 gallon. But she doesn't even really listen, it's not that she doesn't care i don't think, She loves animals and wants to b a vet but won't get her fish in a good home! It really bugs me, i don't have enough money to finnish the tank i am working on at home, but if i did i would love to get her a little 1 gallon "goldfish bowl" to put him in.

I agree with everyone...
I have mine living in a 2 gallon tank it is just the right amount of space...
you see they like little space because they are nrevous fish and in large spaces they are "always looking over their sholder" but that is way to small for even them try to get atleast 2 gallons but no more then 5 gallons if they are gonna be living alone.

I can't put my old man betta Peanut in anything larger than 1/2 gallon, or he gets pale and wont eat. I guess he is used to being in a small area, and feels safe there. Even in the 5 minutes I put him in a 1 gallon temp tank freaks him out, even though its temp matched dechlorinated water that is going INTO his tank. Silly guy.

When I put orchard in his 3 gallon he was scared cuz he'd been in a cup for so long. He had a nice tree trunk cave to hide in tho, and now he wiggles around like a goldie. He always springs to life when he sees me...fish have good eyes!

How big to Bettas grow? Is it possible that my guy will outgrow his 2.5 gallon?
I know he loves it in there right now, when I got him, he wouldn't let me soak the cup in the tank to get him used to the tank water, he shook that cup up until it sank and he swam right out of it!
He does like to scare me into thinking he broke loose somehow (even though there is a lid on it and I know there is no way he can get out) by hiding behind the filter and folding himself into a little ball. As soon as I walk up though he comes shooting out to look at me. I think I'm checking up on him, but it might be the other way around!

I was afraid my betta was going o try that but he was to small to sink it lol. 2.5 is a great size for a betta, they will never out grow it, when you buy them at a petstore they are just about full grown. They get about 2-3 inches w/o the tail.

Hi - I think the little plastic jug is too small, too. just becasue they can survive in there, doesn't mean they should live there! What kind of life is that? I would like to see the fish swim around as he is very beautiful - what are flowy fins for if they can't flow!
I have had three Bettas in the past and all have them have had a minimum of 2g.
Now, I have a (still new!) Betta in a three gallon Eclipse and it is perfect for him! It is always nice to have more space and maybe one day he will live in a bigger tank with other fish - but Bettas are happy alone and 3g is a good middle of the road, happy home size - for me! There are lots of these types of small tank kits available in a decent range of prices. The fish don't need filtration but it is nice to ahve - these kits provide just the right amount of filtration for a Betta - so simple!

I had my beta that was in something about this size:

Too small. It wasn't as small as the one if the picture you had posted, but it wasn't enough. That isn't even one galon, I think.
I moved him into a two gallon tank..this is it:

Ever since I put him in there, his colour has grown brighter and I've never seen him so active. Your best bet is to get something like the tank I have.

I wouldn't go for a seperative tank unless they cannot see eachother through the thing that seperates them. Bettas are very teritorial and if they see another one, they become stessed, angry, and try to attack it.

bubbles, the kids I babysit for each have their own betta in one of those...they look like maybe 1/4-1/2 gallons. Their fish look so sick

Its mainly because they never change the water, never vacuum the gravel, and the whole tank is covered in fish flakes. The fish just sit there..Its really quite sad. It would be much better if they kept the params tidy, but I know a 4 year old can't do water changes.

Bubbles, I've seen those little tanks online and they're listed at 1/2 gallon. The betta that I have now is quite happy in his 2g. I think that I'll be using a (currently) empty 4 gallon for my next one.

Im so bad.. i have 3 of my new boys in 1/2 gallon quarentine tanks till i build the divided ten....
the 1/2 gallon shown, if you clean it properly, I feel can be a decent home... ( have to change it twice a week minimum) but thats just me... i have quite a few customers who keep their bettas in those.... stll better then the betta hex... XP

I think that is pretty bad! My bettas are each in thier own bowl, a bit more than 1/2 a gallon each. I know its sort of small, but it's all I can afford!!! They seem extremely happy, though. And they are smaller bettas, so i think they are fine where they are. But that little thing is WAY too small!

I think the parents should then clean it. Of course, they may not want to do it..maybe you could sujest cleaning the tank to them one day. And if they say no..steal him!

Kidding..hmm. But maybe sujest that to the parents...poor fishie...

Yes, thats true...if you clean it a lot..but of course a 2 gallon in better than a half gallon...but a half gallon is of course better than those horrable little betta hexagon things..aah.

I'm thinking about printing out a couple good betta caresheets and leaving them next to each of the tanks. Poor fishie...you should have seen the condition their last goldfish. Unfortunatly, they are the kind of family that loves to have lots of pets, but not really take care of them.

I have my bettas in those 1/2 gallon bowls, and I have to do 100% changes twice a week.
BUT as soon as we get more shelving put in I am getting divided 10 gallons and 2.5 gallon individual tanks. And then, of course, I will have to get more bettas!
