Hi everybody! LoL

My friend bought a glowlight tetra (I told them they should be in schools but I don't think they ever got anymore)... Anyways, they've had it for a little bit now in their 10 gallon along with a few other fish (white cloud, zebra danio, "algea eater" and goldfish). She said the glowlight laid eggs and we are trying to find info about it. I couldn't find much info online for her about it because apparently it seems to be hard to get a Glowlight to breed I guess! LoL

So, what's she's wondering I guess is:

Are the eggs fertilized before the fish lay them or after (are the eggs any good anymore?)

How long does it take before they hatch? She said the eggs were laid last week and they now have something growing inside but she doesn't know what.

How do you care for the Tetra Fry?

I guess that's about it. Any info would be helpful and I'll pass it on to her smile.gif By the way, I've mentioned to her before she shouldn't be mixing the goldfish in there with them and that all but their "algea eater" are schooling fish LoL -_- *sigh*

Thanks smile.gif

Sounds more like snail eggs than tetra eggs. Tetras are a schooling fish as you know and they wont breed on their own. They need a mate to stimulate spawning and then they hit off each other so the female will scatter the eggs onto the floor of the tank and its highly unlikely she can see them. A lone glowlight i'm afraid wont lay eggs.
I would ask her to take a pic if she can so you can put it up here but if it looks like they are clumped in a mass of jelly then they are probably snail eggs.

Are the other fish on their own as well?

Yeah, I mentioned to her that just about every fish they have in there are schooling fish -_- That was 2 weeks or so ago and they haven't done anything about it.

Snail Eggs? That's odd.. They have no snails in the tank and they couldn't have came in with live plants (they don't mess with live plants). Weird...

I'll see if I can get her to take a picture of them smile.gif She has a small digital camera so perhaps they will.

I'll try and get ahold of her this evening after she's home from work and pass the info on!

Forgot.. Yes, the other fish are alone as well *sniff* sad.gif Her and her husband never have once checked into the fish they are going to buy before they actually get them. They just see one in a store and buy it sometimes -_- They don't seem to want to take my advice about it, but I try and help them with stuff like this if I can at least.

Also i think mating and keeping the eggs alive would be nearly impossible with the amount of fish she has in there. Shes overstocked.

For a 10 gallon? If she hadn't put the goldfish in there it wouldn't be -_- I don't know why she didn't add them to her pond (or why she even bought more... Their goldfish in the pond have been breeding like crazy it sounds like and quite a few are surviving o.0 LoL).

I didn't get ahold of her yesterday because of problems at home *pokes another topic but forgets title* sad.gif Will try and call in another 2 hours or so though and see about the picture smile.gif

I just got ahold of my friend's husband and they did add a few snails. Don't know why they didn't tell me that in the first place though -_- He said the eggs were all bunched up in a group too, so probably just snail eggs smile.gif

Thanks a lot for the help! I should just get them to join this board next time or something rather than passing messages back and forth tongue.gif LoL

At least we could help you help her, thats all that matters biggrin.gif

LoL Yeah smile.gif I'll keep at it and see if I can get them to start taking care of their fishies better too. I've been trying, but just not much luck -_- I gave them the FishProfiles.Com site and hopefully they'll use it -_- LoL *sigh*

Thanks again smile.gif

i would bet their danio eggs... i have a few customers who are convinced danios are as bad as guppies when it comes to breeding!

I forgot to write back on here the other day biggrin.gif I was over at her house for her baby shower on Saturday and seen her tank. It's not bad right now but she needs to get the goldfish out. They aren't very big yet, but they'll grow and I can already see the goldfish are causing water problems. The water wasn't crystal clear, but not yet dirty. Sort of in between.

There was no way they could take a picture of those eggs o.0 They were in a little spot on a decoration, a small clump of eggs stuck together. The eggs were very very very transparent and extrememly hard to see LoL

Aside for the goldfish, she has 1 of each of the fish mentioned in the first post. I don't know how many snails she has, but I don't know if it was a good idea adding them -_- They were wild caught snails in a bucket of water near their pond *sigh* Little tiny snails...
