Ponderosa Power
I went to go do a waterchange tonight in ruby and rummert's tank and I found one of them ( I think rummert) was lying on his side wedged between the rock and the glass, breathing kind of heavily. I flipped out and moved the rock and he darted across the tank and met with Ruby. He seemed perfectly fine...so I did a tiny water change since the ammonia was kinda high. Their black bars re appeared even faster than normal and both ate afterwords. What was going on?
Fishmerised
I think he got stuck.
Ponderosa Power
I thought it was rather strange and I didn't think that the gap was that tight...anyways, he seems tons of better today so I agree. I moved the rock so there was more than enough space inbetween the two walls since it is in the corner last night, just in case smile.gif Poor Rummert! I'm glad I decided to do a late night water change....usually I don't do that stuff after dark cuz they get tired and don't want the light on, but I left it on until after dinner so the light wouldn't affect them. Psh..these fish are indestructable! I'm glad the keep on surviving for me thru stupid mistakes and such.
kortniee
Awww.... you have such resilient little kids! I'm glad he's okay. heartpump.gif
Ponderosa Power
Me too heartpump.gif Rummert was SOOO glad to get outta there. He needs some friends....cycle faster stupid quarentine tank!
tinkerbell
glad he's ok!!!
tough little guy eh?
atryeu
*hugs Kissy* I'm glad your fishy is okay! My first male guppy would get between the glass and the breeder I had floating in there (awaiting the pregnant female to give birth LoL). I don't know what it was about that spot that he liked, but he was constantly there at night and I worried he'd get stuck but I guess there was just enough room to squeeze in and out o.0 LoL
Ponderosa Power
He probably missed his girlfriend and wanted to be there for her when she gave birth tongue.gif
atryeu
LoL That's the weird thing though... the female wasn't in the breeder during that time o.0 LoL There was just something about that spot. LoL

Heh, a bit off topic here, but any ideas of a good "decoration" or something I can put in my little 5 gallon so my froggy has somewhere to hide? I don't really want a cave-like decoration because it's always been so messy in the past when I had one LoL.. It has to be something for an extremely tight budget too -_- *sigh* I need to also try and get a smaller syphon so I can clean the gravel in his tank. My syphon for the 10 gallon is to large to fit in there -_- LoL
Ponderosa Power
Yah fish are expensive sad.gif See if you can get some decorations second hand. 5 bucks for a plastic plant form petsmart is way too much! (not even going to mention the driftwoon O_O)
atryeu
LoL No kidding o.0 I do have a whole ton of plastic plants from my grandma's old tanks... I have 1 live plant in that tank as well but it's not much to hide under. The leaves are much higher up and the stalks are rather long LoL. Hmm, perhaps another plastic plant though. I'll have to go through them all and see if I can find a good one that would work that isn't very large but droopy enough for the frog to hide under LoL

Oh, maybe one of those tubes fish swim through? I seen some on Aquabid somewhere called "ghost houses" but it's just a hallow tube LoL. Perhaps something like that if the hallow part is large enough?
Abrienna
My frogs enjoy PVC pipes/tubes. If you've got African Dwarfs you could try a 1 or 1 1/2 inch elbow.
atryeu
Abrienna: Thanks! Hmm, are those cheap, do you know? Where would I find them? smile.gif
kortniee
They are TOTALLY affordable... less than a dollar each. Just go to the hardware store, and look in the plumbing section. They have all sorts of fun toys there! biggrin.gif
Ponderosa Power
Would cories or ghost shrimp like those tubes? The only fish I have/plan to have are tetras, cories, a betta, goldfish, and possible ghost shrimp or a mystery snail. I think a tube would look rather odd in a tank..if I find some waterproof non-toxic paint or something can I paint them? I'm pinching for tank decorations as well! I really want to have silk plants in the goldie tank at least, they don't even sell those at my lfs's. sad.gif
kortniee
I would think that the bottom-feeding types of fish would like the tubes... you could always use sealant to put gravel or even fake plants on them to make them into pretty caves.
Ponderosa Power
Okay smile.gif I'll remember my tube tip once my tank is cycled.. the stupid thing doesn't even have enough ammonia in it yet.
atryeu
Hmm, Thanks! I'll write that down and see if I can stop in the hardware section at Wal-mart or Fred Meyer on Thursday biggrin.gif It'd be nice if they look nice, but oh well.. As long as it's cheap, it'll do!

If I find one, I should probably rinse it up good in hot water before adding it to the tank, right? I'll be getting the ADF the same day, unless the store no longer carries the froggies -_- *glares at store*
kortniee
I think a good rinse'll do... luckily, they're designed for water, so you shouldn't have to worry about them too much. smile.gif
Graham
Hi Kissy - I am glad Rummert is ok - Sounds like he got stuck! He's so lucky to have you! Your fish, etc. would like the tube!

Atryou - YEah!!! new frog! I have two - I love 'em! heartpump.gif They are so ridiculously cute! They need to live in tanks because if you have ever seen them swim... it is unbelievable that they live in the wild... and they can't find food too well, either! So, they need to be spoiled by us! I have a rock that is nto solid - it has arches under it -so it feels safe for them but I still get to see them - if you had a cave you might not see them too often... PVC from the hardware store is an excellent and affordable solution - Yup, rinse with water and NO soap. Make sure you rinse it in cool water after and let the tank temps acclimate with the pipe beofre stciking the frog in there -maybe you could do it before you go to the store so it will be just right when you get back!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I just bought a mini-siphon at Petsmart - it was $2.39 - it great for my 3 gallon tanks! I can't remember what size it said on the package but you will know when you see it - it's tiny!

Enjoy your frog and post pix!
atryeu
Thanks Graham! Hmm, perhaps I can get my mom to pick up the little pipe for me tomorrow. There's no possible way I can get uptown before Thursday though sad.gif

Geez, $2 for a little syphon? I think I only payed $2 for my "big" one at Wal-Mart o.0 There's all kind of junk in the bottom of that tank since I can't clean the gravel *sigh* I have to find a way no matter what -_-

I have a small 5 gallon smile.gif it's pretty naked looking right now though. I have a live plant and the "river rock" like gravel. LoL Hmm, perhaps, if I found a Java Plant, would I be able to tie it down on the pipe and allow it to grow on top do you think?

Also, I read the ADFs could be fed earthworms if you chop them so they are bite size. Do any worms do, or just certain ones? I've heard both ways while I looked online LoL. So far on Thursday, I'll only have Frozen Bloodworms until I can make it uptown again for another goodie. Since you have ADFs, can you recommend any other type of food they'd like? I can't do live foods (other than earthworms.. We have lots of those around here LoL)

About the picture, I'll see if I can get my friend to bring her digital camera over, but otherwise I have no way to take pics sad.gif I've tried taking pics of my old goldfish before with a disposable camera but Wal-mart never once developed them sad.gif My friend is the only person who I know with a digital camera, unless I can get my dad to borrow their camera from work again *wonders* LoL
Graham
Well, I do live in a very expensive area... but I 'm sure there is a minimum price - they always seem to charge you more for the small stuff! My 10" siphon was like 12 bucks with tax! And that was in another state so it would be cheaper!
Sheesh - I am moving to wherever you are!

Sorry, Kissy, this thread seems to be jacked! We should start a new thread about your frogs! Poor Rummy, we took didn't mean to ignore his plight! heartpump.gif

BTW - I feed mine FD bloodworms - they love those! That's all I feed them - sometimes brine. I don't do live food and I HATE worms, of any kind, I can barely deal with bloodworms... YUCK! My frogs are over two years old! So, I wouldn't worry about concocting strange diets for them - they eat worms and that's about it.

I don't think your java fern will grow on top of PVC. They need something porous so they can grow their roots through it, like driftwood or lava rock - you could use fishing line or thread to tie the plant to the driftwood and then cover the pipe with the wood!

PS - how about a turkey baster form the dollar store?! You could take the bulb off and attach some tubing - voila - a mini siphon!
Ponderosa Power
Lol, its okay I don't mind the thread being jacked. I do it all the time to other threads x_X Rummerts all good so I don't see why it would hurt anything smile.gif Atryeu, goodluck with your froggies! I'm sure you'll love them smile.gif
atryeu
Thanks Kissy smile.gif

Well, hmm, I can't get the pipe tomorrow. Mom's not goign to work. Sorta had an emergancy today so we have lots to do *sniff* Idiot that built this house did a terrible job and we found yet another problem. Our lovely hot water pipe broke today and flooded the downstairs and my closet. Had to shut the water off so we have no water other than what's in the holding tank -_- So, I cannot do any sort of water changes for my tanks until everything is fixed *sniff* (The damage was to the walls and such and most of it needs replaced now -_-)

Thanks for the idea about the homemade syphon! Hmm, I don't know if we have an old baster here somewhere.. Not sure about tubing other than some really small stuff for my air pump LoL Cool idea though!!

Hmm, I'll stick with the bloodworms for now then and go from there. Perhaps now and then I'll find a nice juicy small worm for him/her too LoL Thanks for the info Graham!

I'll keep everybody updated about what goes on. I hope to make it uptown still, but I don't know -_-
kortniee
Ewwwww. Watch out for mold... horrible things can happen when a house gets that wet.
atryeu
No kidding -_- It stink like you wouldn't believe down here.. Ugh, and my bedroom is conviently right down here to so I get to put up with it all night along with a lovely dripping noise from the pipe in the next room. Yippee -_- We are going to see if we can fix the pipe tomorrow, and I really hope so since before I put the froggy in the tank, I need to do a water change and vacuum all the junk up -_-

*sigh* What a wonderful day *sniff* Wish I could just beat the guy that built this house. He didn't hire professionals so he did a terrible job and we didn't know how bad of a job until after we bought it. We keep finding more and more problems. Few months back we had to build a new pipe for the dryer because the old "pipe" the guy used got clogged (not to mention it wasn't even legal to use that type anymore because it's a fire hazard) sad.gif

Anyways, sorry *sigh* Just really upset about everything today.... Hopefully the froggy will cheer me up THursday *crosses fingers*
atryeu
*sniff* Just thought I'd post an update... I can't get the froggy tomorrow sad.gif We still have absolutely no water so I can't do a water change or anthing sad.gif No luck soldering so we tried some sort of 'goup' sealer stuff for metals but we won't know if it worked until tomorrow. *sigh* At least 2 years ago when we had our water pipe frozen solid, we had snow to melt for water.... Have to keep buying bottled water to clean up and such now. LoL

Hopefully I can get the froggy the following week though. My mom is on vacation so I'll have a ride on 1 days next week and hopefully the water pipes will be fixed *crosses fingers*
Ponderosa Power
Oh atryeu I'm sorry! Things just keep getting in the way, huh? You'll get your froggie eventually smile.gif
atryeu
*hugs kissy* No kidding sad.gif *cries* This has to be about the worst summer I've ever had. There's only one that comes close but it still wasn't as bad (I sprained my arm pretty bad on my b.day one year and couldn't move it very well for 2 full months o.0 It had to be on my b.day and the one time I got to go on a trip for a few days too. Was fun, but I couldn't do anything interesting, like the rock climbing *sigh* LoL)

Sounds like I'm going uptown tomorrow still though, so I can at least try and get the little pipe, syphon and look for a plant or two! I think I'll wait for the Bloodworms though since we need to move things around in the freezer first -_- LoL I can check and make sure the froggies are still there too, and see if Petco or the other lfs carries them! *glares at wal-mart* I really don't want to buy from there unless I have ot -_-
atryeu
Yay!! Even though I couldn't buy anything, it was a great day uptown! I found the ADFs at Petco and the lfs (they were almost $3 cheaper at Petco and looked better!). I also found a ton of cories at the lfs but I don't know what half of them where. Most were in the "salt water" section LoL I did see Albino Cories at the lfs and Petco though, yay!!! Spendy little guys though o.0 Almost $3/fish!!! A pair is probably all I can get sad.gif

I also seen several schooling fish that would be great, and found a Java Fern ($6 dollars for 1 plant!!!!!! -_-) The only Java Moss the lfs sold was attached to driftwood and was being sold with the driftwood and java fern, but it was $20 -_-

Also, unless they are sold out again, I'll buy a small 10 gallon tank ($10 LoL) at Wal-Mart next time and see if I can fill it half full or so at least for a QT or something.

No progress on the water prob. yet. Mom's getting pretty mad about it and is thinking about calling a plumber for info and prices tomorrow after work *sigh*

Anyways, was so excited bout the fishy finds and I wanted to pass the info on!!!
Graham
YEAH!!! You got your ADFs!!! What are you going to call them? And you got cory's, too!? How exciting! I am really sorry to hear about your plumbing problems - if you rent and your water is not being fixed, you should report it! Not having water is a very serious problem - call the city before you pay a plumber. But, you own, right?! I'd make sure the real estate agent or the company who did the assessment on the house gets the bill - good luck. I hope you get water soon!

Tell us about your new set-up! biggrin.gif
Ponderosa Power
Yay for froggies! I visited my old bio teacher to talk to her about bring back her toad tomorrow. She had african dwarf in a ten gallon with to inches of the FILTHIEST water I'm ever seen. Its even worse than my tank that I'm cycling with fish food...god its gross! I'm hoping that it was some sort of substrate...not tons of poo like I think! Poor froggy sad.gif
atryeu
Aww, poor froggy!! I hope they clean the tank soon sad.gif

I didn't get anything yet, I could only price them. Since I have no water, I can't do a water change on the tanks and I need to before adding anything sad.gif I hope things are going next week though because I get another chance to get uptown! *Crosses fingers*

The setup for the 5 gallon (froggy tank) isn't much. Has some "salmon red" 'river rock' pebbles, 1 live plant (apogenton or something like that... a bulb plant from Wal-Mart you just plant and it takes care of itself biggrin.gif LoL). I didn't find a single PVC pipe today, but I did find a nice little decoration that'll work! It's a log with the bottom half cut off to make a tunnel. Looks neat! I'm going to cut off to 2 plastic plants that are on it though.. Those are very creepy, otherwise it's a neat little decoration and I'm sure the frogs will love it!

I have a small QT tank for the froggy to stay in for 2 or 3 days too.... Very very small, but it will do if I change a little water smile.gif It's one of those Aqua Garden Mini-Deluxe "habitats" for a betta LoL. It has slits in the hood to let air in but nothing can escape.. Lid has a hinge to open up and a small cover that locks in place for feedings smile.gif Very nice and will do for 1 frog for a just a little bit to make sure he's okay.
atryeu
Sorry for the double post *sigh* I forgot smile.gif

We own the house, and we have our own well smile.gif Dad won't call a plumber though. Mom was going to behind his back but I doubt she will *sigh*

I forgot to ask, do either of you know much about Dwarf Neon Rainbows? There's not a whole lot of info on FishProfiles. I've looked them up before but never thought to see any but I forgot the lfs carried them smile.gif They don't get very big (2" according to FishProfiles) and it's a semi-schooling fish (what's a semi-schooling?) and it's supposed to school with other fish.. Think a few Dwarf Neon Rainbows (or a pair or single) would be okay in a 10 gallon with another small school of fish (white clouds, tetras or rasbora)?

Sorry for posting it here.. I hate making new topics tongue.gif
Ponderosa Power
Hmm...I've never heard of dwarf neon rainbows before..they sound pretty! I hope you get your froggy/ies soon smile.gif (and I hope your water gets fixed too! I can kind of relate...our good water is gone and all that is left is tap...okay nvm that's not really relating! I'm too pampered to drink yucky tap water tho tongue.gif)
atryeu
The Dwarf Rainbows are pretty smile.gif They are kinda blah until they reach their adult stage. FishProfiles.Com has a pretty picture of an adult smile.gif

LoL Thanks, me too!! This is the second time we've been without any running water before *sniff* Last time was in the winter so we could at least melt snow for water (had 3 feet that year o.0), but it's terrible this year!

Oh, in the other post, forgot to mention to Graham, I'm outside of city limits. The "town" I live in is a good 15 - 20 minutes down the hill and the town with the pet stores and such is about 30-40 minutes -_- I'm quite aways out in the middle of nowhere LoL
