Hey all,
I am dede sues daughter. I realy belong to a freshwater fourum, but my mom said that kokos had a realy great betta section so I just had to check it out myself. well any way i just bought a betta today and was wondering if Bettas could eat flake food. I have two Dalmation Mollies and I feed them flake food so I just wanted to know if I could feed him the same thing. If any one can answer me that would be great and if you have any extra info or tips for bettas that would be excellent smile.gif

I once had a betta which ate flaked food (made for bettas) but this is rare, most won't. They can be VERY picky eaters blink.gif . My betta eats 'betta bites', tiny little pellets, as well as freeze dried blood worms. You can also try brine shrimp. The best thing to do is try a bit of everything and see what your fish will eat. Good luck and enjoy your newfish.gif

I've only tried the Betta bites and the bloodworms with my little guy. He went straight for the bites the first time I put them in. I'm sitting there going, but everyone on Koko's told me you were going to be a picky eater??? Guess he hasn't visited the site himself!!! laugh.gif

Oh, my little guy seems to like it better when its darker, I put a dark green backing on his tank and that made him much happier. The day after I did that, I came home to find a massive bubble nest!

My sister fed her Betta flakes and it made his tank gross (which is why I adopted him )

Bettas need more protien then most other tropical fish, so a betta specific diet is required... They make betta flakes, but few of mine will even look at them, much less actually taste them. My guys get a mix of Hikari Betta, HBH Betta Bites, occasional frozen food, and once a week, A tropical granuel (either MircoPellets by hikari or tetra tropical granuels)

plus a freeze dried shrimp as a treat every so often. biggrin.gif variety is the spice of life!

My Betta won't eat the freeze dried bloodworms! He just looks at me like "OK, lady, where's the REAL food?"

ya... i have had some who wouldnt eat them.. and its ok, becuase bloodworms are atty anyways.... lol!

Orchard will eat anything that falls into his tank! I feed him hikari, but so far he's eaten tropical flakes, freeze-dried bloodworms, and metro-med (medicated goldie food). I love having a non-picky eater!

I'm jealous of you guys! My betta will only eat the betta bites! He ignores everything else that goes in his tank (except my finger, he likes to nibble on that!)
