I read a post here about mirrors for single fishies who look lonely.

I can't afford a bigger tank so my little fishie is solo....
today I mirrored the entire back wall and both end walls...... only the front is not mirrored and he has perked up big time, he is so happy!
and I must say with the bare bottom it looks SWANK.

That sounds cool. Very chic and modern. I did that to one of bettas, but he never left the mirror, not even to eat! So I removed it. Silly fishy.

How did you attach the mirrors? Or did you use mirrored paper?

that sounds really pretty....must be so contemporary looking.....

making me think about that on one of my 10's now....

thats cool....not only does the goldie feel like he has a friend, but he feels that his tank is way larger...NICE

a friend? hehehe well if you take into effect all the angles the mirrors make I think he sees about 12 other fish LOL


I bought 4 perfect size chunks of mirror and some uber duber sticky tape, and stuck them on the outside

Very cheap, very easy just make sure the mirror is flawless


and of course with the bare bottom it looks reflective to everyone but fishie so everything in there is nice and bright, totally brings out his color and yes, makes the tank look super nifty.

sure I will see if I can get a pic of it tomorrow keep in mind however it will show ME in the glass taking the stupid picture. unless I try to angle myself and just show half the tank..... which would be better. yes that is what I will do! tomorrow

the fish is not very old.... he has grown heaps since I got him on July 30.......

When my Fred is better I plan on getting him a new large tank but the only spot I can put it is against a large full wall of windows, I read to much direct sunlight is not good so you have given me a great idea! If I mirrowed the back of it it would protect him from direct sunlight plus make the tank look awsome and I can have the blinds open

Yes it would be terrific in your set up! it would reflect the light making it nice and bright yet not direct I have a lamp on the one side of the tank that I never turn off *( I have roach infestation because I live in low income low class housing so never fully dark here) and that mirror panel makes it just right at night when the rest of the lights are off

Yes it would be good. The wall I need to use faces North so gets most the sun, its also the one that lights the room so it would be a shame to have it closed all the time but I have no other wall to house a tank. I was thinking maybe do the sides aswell like you did as sun come in that wall and the wall next to it, this would stop direct sun hitting the side of the tank too.
Also the mirros wil give the optical allusion that the tank is HUGE LOL

How is your fish going with the new mirrors? Does he still thinks he has a playmate?
So far I have not got my mirrors yet, planing a trip to the hardware store this weekend
For now I just have a background to stop the sunlight.

Yea he is still in love with himself in the mirrors. He is a happy fishie now... he has it all! bubble wall! mirrors! gel food!~ haha

I snagged my mirrors in a dollar store, of all places. They were nice pieces of mirror in really cheap rubber or plastic frams I just snapped off carefully then wrapped the sharp edges in clear tape

you can also buy mirror tiles in craft stores, or stained glass supply outlets. they come usually, 12x12 sheets. very easy to cut, too!
