Combined with irregular growth (meaning my oranda is not sleek, but slightly roundish), he has turned upside down (like a turtle) and stayed that way for a long time. For a while it wasnt much of a problem because he could right himself up again (so it's not a bladder problem). But one day he couldn't, and stayed upside down so long (I wasnt home) that the red has gone out of his cap, and blood vessels can be seen around his chin.
I've put him in a shallow water bucket (so that bouyancy won't make him upside down) and did the peas thing. Should I do anything else? Poop was yellow at first, then brown.
Also, its companion is fretting and antsy where he could have gone. I can't put them together since this one tends to nudge the other and turns him upside down.

I have a fish that turns upside down every night after feeding. She stays that way all night but by morning is able to right herself and is Ok for the rest of the day. She has digestive complications and certain foods are better than others for her. I believe she will always be this way.
Perhaps this is the case with your fish also?

Certain foods have more filler and thus can cause more digestive issues...maybe you can try switching to a better food...maybe something like Omega or Hikari. You should also always make sure to soak the food...do you do that? Just soak it in some tank water for a few minutes.
For now, lay off the fish food. Feed peas (you can insert a grain of epsom salt into the pea and that may help act as a laxitive too) for a day or so. Then fast for 2-3 days.

Does your goldfish try to dart and scratch himself? I'm just wondering if the other goldfish could have a parasite?
Also, what are your water parameters? How much do you feed them and how often? How big's your tank?

Good questions Athena. We really need all the information from the questions up above to really help you figure out the problem.Anytime a fish has a floaty issue,it really is a problem-whether it's a feeding issue,a water quality issue,or an illness. Please post soon with these answers.

Thanks folks. Water is fine really. It's just that his body grew crosswise than lengthwise, giving him a sort of hump, and a shape of a donut. I'm sure that the constipation would resolve eventually. It's just that the red from the cap disappearing, and blood vessels in his neck that got me worried.

The constipated one is not so red on the neck anymore, and the cap has regained some color. So, that's great. But don't think I should return him to the tank.
Other one is still antsy though.

Thanks. I guess this sort of case hasn't happened to anyone.
