I got 2 girl guppies and 1 guy..i think both the females are pregnant ..they both have the big black spots behind thier stomachs..SO they r pregnant right? how long will it take them to have thier babies?? i already have a guppies baby holder..so ?
sandy
it depends when they got pregnant but as no one knows then its hard to guess when they will pop. around 30 days is the normal gestation time but if you can get pics then that will help greatly. they are really close to giving birth when they start to hide more and look like little barrels.

i have had them 2 days...i cann post pics in a few days though becuz i get my chord that goes to my camera then! THANKS
unthinkable90
by the way is it normal for the water to get cloudy with the guppys in it?? i cycled the tank 24 hours before i put them in it?
unthinkable90
heLLO?!?
sandy
how did you cycle the tank? how big is it and it could be just a bacterial bloom which is common when new tanks are just starting out.
unthinkable90
i put water in it and started the filter for 24 hours..its 10 gallons and i think it might be a bacterial bloom..IS that bad for the fish??
Barbra44
Sandy is right... it's most likely a bacterial bloom. I too am wondering how you cycled your tank in 24 hours. Fill us in and we can help you out more.

Is it a new tank? new water new gravel new everything?
unthinkable90
NEW everything ..i rinsed everything off

Hi there! Good luck with the guppies first of all smile.gif I never had any luck breeding them *sniff*

I believe what they mean is, normally when you setup a brand new tank, or clean up and restart an old one, most people will "cycle" the tank and on average, it takes about a month unless you have a really fancy way (I've seen a few ways to cycle it within 2 or 3 weeks and one that supposibly takes only a few hours) smile.gif

After a tank is "cycled" the Ammonia and Nitrite readings on a water test will show up as 0, which means things are all set and the good bacteria that feeds on the ammonia and nitrites is well established. By doing this, the fish will have a better life because their water quality will be near perfect and it won't stress them out or anything.

I believe there was an article on the site somewhere about it if you wanted to learn more. You can also find a whole ton of info about it through search engines as well smile.gif

Anyways, hope that's sort of what you were wondering about by putting the "??" smile.gif I was just taking a guess and hoping it's what you were wondering everybody was talking about! Best of luck with the fishies!

So i have had the fish 3 days and i let the filter run without the fish 24 hours...Will it kill them sence i put them in it after 24 hours??

Just keep a close eye on them! If they aren't really fragile fish, like tetras or something, it won't always... In my experience at least... LoL My male guppy is in my uncycled 5 gallon tank and he's been doing great through the whole thing! No ammonia burns, very very active and has a huge appatite still smile.gif

Do you have a test kit? If not, you might get one so you can keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite at least! I heard most pet stores that sell fish will test your water if you bring a sample in but I've never done it.

ok ill get a test kit biggrin.gif
