im on my 2nd snail, the first one i had died within the first week ihad him and im on my current snail... beautiful black and purpley snail, but hes been floating for a week now. he is alive. cus i pick him up and stick him on a leaf of one of my larger plants and he slimes around for a little while and then 15min later hes floating again. the first one i had did this as well but he would "fart" i guess and then sink back to the bottom, but he died. thought he was chillen on the bottom but two days of chilling concerned me and he was a very very stinky snail. im worried about mr barry tho. ive been taking him out and feeding him in a little tray to make sure he gets enough to eat. but hes all scratched up and not as pretty as when i first got him. its really funny watching him in his little dish... "i will conquer this pea ahhhmmm *runs it over and curls his lil sides over it and tilts to the side* you will submit harr!"
any suggestions as to what to do with mr. barry? if a picture would help i stole my bfs digi cam i just dunno how to post em.

the scratched up shell is probably from him bumping in to stuff while hes floating and sinking. shouldnt matter, as long as his shell dont crack completely.

How old is this snail? Any ideas? If not, how large is it? I assume he's a Bridgesii. Also... can you give us an idea of pH, nitrates/nitrites, temperature, how much air there is in the water, etc.
Some snails like to float.. others float when they are old or sick.
Don't worry about the scratches either. If they are really bothering you, you can paint them over with clear nail polish, which will smooth out the shell without damaging the snail, provided the polish doesn't touch his body. Also make sure you are adding calcium to your water.
