I had plastic plants, and put some of the inexpenisve bulbs from wallmart. And lo and behold, the goldfish have not eaten them (unlike the other plants, which my goldfish feel are "snacks" ) in my experince, only about 1/2 to 2/3 of the bulbs grow, but they are good plants. And my Water lily in my 29 gallon is HUGE!!!

I have wondered about those bulbs, that's good to know. About how long does it take the bulbs to start growing? Do you just root them in the gravel....how does it work?!?
Do you have any pics? I would love to see your water lily and how it has grown.

working on the pics guys, but here is my tips for hte bulbs
get bulbs, put in bucket with tank water and let them soak for one hour.
Bury bulbs in water - waterlilies take 20 days or so, the other one take 10-15 days in my experince.
The non-lilies grow to at least a 6x6 inch mass of leaves
the water lily is a red lily as gets quite big, picutres coming soonish!
