Hi,

I lost another fish suddenly this past weekend. I can't figure out what my fishes have or are catching from each other. I need advice.

2 weeks ago (June 5) I lost my Red Cap Oranda, named RedHat or as my sis called it Randy.

This past week (June 18) I lost my Shubukin, named Speck

They both got the same thing. The infection in the tummy area. Can someone advise me on if it's bacteria related or parasite related.

The Oranda got the same thing before about a month ago, but recovered, until it came back again and then she died.

I need some advice, is it something I'm doing?!?!?!

It would help us a lot if you could post the answers to all the questions above. Then we can narrow down what's wrong with your goldfish. smile.gif

Ammonia Level 0 Nitrite Level? 0 Nitrate level? 0.25 Ph Level? 7.6

Ph Level out of the Tap? I don't know, I store the water for a week, and then put in tank

Tank size(How many Gals) and How long has it been running? 50 Gal, 1 year

What kind of Filtration? 2 Power filter that hangs off the back of tank.

How often do you change the water and how much? 2 weeks, 20% change

What kind of Water additives or conditioners? Doc Wellfish Aquarium Salt, Tetra
Water Conditioner, and Stress Enzyme.

Any Medications add to the tank? Not any now!

How many fish in the tank and there size? 6 total(4 x $0.12 common goldfish), 1 Shubunkin, 1 Red Hat Oranda) They are about 2-4 inches
(But now Oranda and Shubunkin have died), so 4 Common goldfish left.

Add any new fish to the tank? No, I haven't bought any since last year in the summer.

What do you feed your fish? TetraFin goldfish flakes and sometimes pelets and sometimes Bloodworms

Both fishes died with tummy area being infected. Both died a couple of weeks apart! Tank has been clean every week since the first break out of the fish infection.

Oranda first got it in April starting with a lump that kept getting bigger and then eventually popped, and pus came out. And then recovered and once again, a month later whole bottom of the tummy area got infected and then she died, within a 3 days of infection coming back.

Shubunkin got the same thing last week, except his infected areas were two seperate spots to tummy (with pus and blood around it). I took a picture of it a few hours before he died as well. I'll post it when I can tonight.

What is this infection? They acted normally and then all of a sudden they got sick. They then were sitting at the bottom of the tank, and having a hard time swimming, and they were breathing fast. By the 2 or 3 day, you could see the pus developement in the tummy area, and then the scales in that area fell off, and then pus would come out.

But with the Shubunkin, only one infection popped and soon he died.

Could it be the other aggressive goldfish I have, one has become a bully lately!

Hi!
Commons need at least 20 gallons of water per fish. Since you have 4 left you should have about an 80 gallon tank. So, being overstocked can lead to illness and disease from increased nitrates. Also, it would help to do weekly water changes of about 50% since they are overcrowded.
I would recommend going with a broad spectrum antibiotic and then doing water changes as a result of daily testing with a Nitrate test kit.
Hope this helps! smile.gif
