Full Version: I Have Babies!

We found approx. a dozen little fry about an inch long in the lower pond. Now I don't think any of my lower pond fish are old enough to breed so they must have come from the upper pond and made it down via the waterfall. I'm thinking the Shubunkins in the upper pond are the parents but it could easily be Koi too since they are all about 3 years old. I'm so excited. I'll have to see if I can get pictures to post. banana.gif

Congrats on your fry. It will be interesting to see them develop and what mix they turn out to be.

I figured out how the babies go to my lower pond. About 2 weeks ago I moved water hyacinths from the upper pond to the lower pond. The eggs must have been attached to the roots of the hyacinths. They are so so tiny. I put some cooked egg yolk in for them last night and they loved it.

Congrats to the new parents! wink.gif

Debi, if you left them in the pond they should be okay living off of the algae on the sides and the little squiggly things living in there? But of course they need food constantly huh. I can't remember how many times a day it was that they were to eat but basically you are supposed to make sure that their little tummies never get half empty (or stay over half full). I had mine in the house and they went through food, fast.

My Ole Blue is about ready to burst, she is so fat it's hard to believe that she is able to get around as well as she does. Not sure why they haven't spawned yet.

Scott, they seem to be eating fine. There is algea and "other" things (which I don't even want to know about) to eat for sure. I just can't believe how little they are. I just love to watch them. I'm figuring by next week I'll have more eggs (we are going into another 90+ temp week so the adults should be pretty active).

I hope Blue gets rid of her eggs soon.

When ever I change something in the Pond they spawn. This happens most of the time when I put in new plants.

I have my fish in a 100 gal rubermaid stock tank and so far there have been no males old enough to fertilize the eggs.

Congrats on your babies 8)

where are the pictures? im looking forward to seeing them

The fry won't cooperate long enough for me to take pictures. Plus, they are so tiny I don't know if they'd come out anyway. I'm going to try again this weekend to get some pictures.
