i have a 29 gallon tank with 2 oranda's and 1 wakin. i have them for about 4 months now. the whole time they had no problem. but today, i did a 25% water change and did the usual: add Aqua-Safe and AquaPlus to tap water before putting into tank. but today i added a product called "ACE" by Jungle. there wasn't anything wrong with it when as i watched and waited for a few hours. but when i went out with my friends and came back at night, i find that it is just floating around the tank. i dont know what is wrong with it. but i can see some black to bloodish tisuse or some sort in his gills. im not sure what it is. please help me if you can please. i dont want this fish to die. please let me know if i should remove the black/bloodish tissue or just leave it alone and do something else. sorry, but i am unable to get the readings on my tank because i do not have a test kit right now.

I'm sorry about your fish. What is "ACE" supposed to do anyway?

I'm just having a rough guess that your fish haemorraghed in the gills, the black is old congealed blood. I don't think you should try to remove it in gase you do more damage to the delicate area.

It's a tricky situation to advise on, there is a possibility that your fish is also haemorraghing internally, in which case it may be too late to do anything to save it.

Your best bet would be to use a broad spectrum antibiotic water treatment. I'm not sure where you live and what's available but you have access to Jungle meds and I've heard they have a good product like this on the market, just can't recall what's it's called.

Someone else should be able to tell you or recommend a product, I live in Australia and we don't have much available here.

The "ACE" by Jungle is a Ammonia Chloramine Eliminator. But i'm sadly to say that my wakin has past away. sad.gif but i like to thank you for replying and helping. could you please tell me what is the cause of the haemorraghed fish, so i can prevent this from happening to my 2 orandas? also, i wanted to know if it was contagest? because i saw that a chunk of the bloodish tissue come out of its gills and my oranda just quickly swam and ate it.

Sorry your fish died sad.gif

whilst your tank was cycling did you use the fish to cycle or did you add those after the cycle finished?
you havent said if you tested the water at all. Do you have recent tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ammonia?

Sorry to hear your fish passed away. sad.gif

It does seem a bit of a coincidence about the ACE, although I've never heard of a water conditioner having such effects on a fish. One question, how did you add it to your tank? Did you add it to your water in the bucket before your poured it into the tank or add it directly to the tank? If directly to the tank was it before or after the new water was added?

I don't know if your fish eating the blood of the other fish will harm it, it depends on the cause of your deceased fish's haemorragh. If it was due to a bacterial infection then possibly the pathogens may contaminate the fish that ate it. But then again, possibly not.

If you can supply as much info as possible by answering the questions in the white box then we can get a clearer idea of what's going on and hopefully suggest a treatment.

Hi there smile.gif

I'm sorry your fish passed. It is most unfortunate but I think I may be able to shed some light on what happened:

According to my research, I think you may have overdosed your tank with sodium thiosulfate (sp?). That is the main ingredient in most all of the water conditioners we commonly see in aquaria. There are others but they are ALL toxic if overdosed. Below are the names of the products and what they do:

Aqua Safe - Turns tap water into pond water, immediately neutralizes chlorine and chloramines plus detoxifies heavy metals.

Aqua Plus - Tap water conditioner. Removes chlorine and chloramines. Neutralizes heavy metals. Coats, protects and promotes healing.

ACE (ammonia, chlorine, eliminator) - Neutralizes the harmful effects of ammonia, chloramine and chlorine. Safe and fast acting. Use when setting up a new aquarium, making water changes, or ammonia levels are high.

It seems that you only need to use one of these products as they all do the same exact things. Since you say that you used all three in your water, I can only assume that you used a standard dose (or more) for all three. Wich in turn caused a serious condition to form in your goldies gills.

In the future, try to read and understand all of a products instructions, methods of operation and the like before proceeding with its use. If your ever in doubt, ask someone here and you'll get very informative answers that will surely help.

Again, I'm sorry you lost your goldie.... sad.gif

Hope this helps,

Paul

I agree with Toothless if you did use all 3 at once. It is the most likely scenario. Sorry, I was under the impression you switched from the Aqua products to the Jungle produce. sad.gif
