How much space do gourmi's need? I saw some beautiful ones, and have a cycled tank, with nothing but snails in it, and was curious how much space they need.
-Thanks-

I am not totally sure on this one but that is what I had before I had the goldies....I had them in a 10gal tank. I had one dwarf gourami and one regular size one. They seemed fine in there but I am guessing they didn't make if for a reason and that could of very well been the tank size?.....I have no idea how big they get either.
So I have no clue really, that is a good question I would like to know also......
They are such pretty fish I just wish I coulda kept them alive!! I just have a feeling that I had 2 of the wrong ones toghether and there was some territorail issues.

yup froggydella if you have two males in a small tank then they will get aggressive with each other.
it depends which kind you are after BRBW, the dwarfs you could get a pair in 10 gallons but the bigger ones need a long tank, around 3 foot.

Here's some info on dwarf gouramis:
http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin.aspIt recommends at least a 29 gal. tank.

i believe one of them was called a fire gourami?? but not sure, and the other was a gold gourami.

Fire gouramis fall under the category as "dwarf" and gold gouramis can go either way. The "real" gold gourami gets somewhere between 4-5 inches I think? Then there is the honey gourami that is a dwarf but comes in lots of colors (usually browns to yellows to oranges). Does the fish have whitish spots on it? The real gold gourami looks like the blue or three spot but yellow instead

The gold gourami was all yellow, and had like a black circle on its back fine, and a few black stripes going down it. Very pretty fish.

If I had enough room, I'd get a gourami tank! Of course that comes after the goldie tank (have), the tropical tank (kind of have), and the mollie tank (don't have). Haha...In a REALLY long time after I graduate from college and I'm all settled with money, I'm going to get a molly tank. I saw a few at petsmart and they wiggled right into my heart! If the 29 gal I jsut got still works by then I'll turn that to the mollie tank and get a big goldie tank.....I'm actually considering just having mollies in the 29 right now....probably not tho.

LOL, Im the same way Lauren!! I would have a zillion tanks in my house if I could.. but by then... I would probably have to hire somebody to help me clean all of them!!!! Ive never had any mollies, but they are really pretty.

I never took much interest into mollies, and I always thought balloon mollies were ugly from the pictures I saw. My eyes wondered while I was at petsmart and they totally caught me by surprise!! I want a molly tank ._.

Yeah, I used to never have much interest in them as well, but I never really did take a good look at them. A couple months ago, I saw a few mollies, and they were just soo pretty!!! I used to never like gouramis as well, but have just started to realize how beautiful they were as well!!! I hope you get that molly tank you've been wanting!! When you, let me know! Ive been wanting a cichlid tank myself, but thats my last one... Gouramis first, then cichlids, then salt water. LOL

LOL, wow thats gonna be ALONG time from now... Why so long? I bet you you'll get one before then. You'll end up seeing this perfect little molly that you'll have to have... at least im like that... then im like oh i think i can handle one more tank.. LOL

Well, I am making it a point to get into a college that allows at least 20 gallons so I can sneak in an extra nine. Then I'll also have a 10 or 12 gallon for tropicals that will be "my roomates". Then, if I REALLY need, I can sneak in a rubbermaid and use it as a night stand

I don't know if I even have ROOM to sneak in anymore! I'm a junior in highschool, so it will be about six more years til I'm out of college. I want to make sure I've got a good appartment and well paying job before I go out and spend so much more money. Man I hope I don't end up running into that cute little molly soon! Uhh...yah now that I think of it I think it will be soon ._.

LOL.. i dont know what i would do if I had to live in a dorm. Luckily I dont have to. LOL, im sure you could sneak in a few tanks without anyone noticing! LOL, ive been doing alot of looking online and in the newspaper for used tanks, and have come across alot for pretty cheap. Im picking one up tomorrow. 40 gallon for $20. Im sooo excited... Still not sure what im going to put in it. My mom has been wanting a fish tank, so I might set it up for her... but im not sure yet...

have you tried looking on ebay?? or craigslist.com ??? If you go to craigslist, and then choose your local area, its like classified for everything. and its totally free to post anything. You can even post wanted adds, and people will email you. Thats how I found the 40 gallon. Some lady said it was just taking up space, and wanted it out. LOL...

Oh my! 40 gallons for 20 bucks???? Your so lucky! Well, that would be a good size tank for gourami, molliesor even a salt water! (or whatever you mom wants.) Maybe you can give her a few suggestions....

When I'm all settled in with the goldie and tropical tanks (probably several months) I'll probably end up looking at that website. Oh no! STOP BRAINWASHING ME!! Must...restrain.......use...will-power!!! Quit encouraging me Jess, my heart gives me enough encouragement as it is

Lol sorry... If i had it my way, I would have a garage filled with empty tanks, just in case I saw some fishies I wanted. LOL.... Everytime i see a tank for sale online or in the paper, if its cheap enough, some part of me says I have to have it, even if I have no room for it!!! LOL

I try to stay away from the petshops now, otherwise I would take the whole store home with me.

Lol! Okay here's my dream tanks:
55 gallon tank: Fancies! Black moore, telescope, redcap, lionhead, oranda, cana snail
50 gallon: 2 commons or comets that will grow into monsters
29 gallon: 6 or 7 assorted mollies (marlbed balloons and plain black ones...all female!!! I don't want to deal with babies)
25 gallon tank: a pair of dwarf gouramis and a schools of small tetras (black neons and cardinals) and three adorable cories
12 gallon: six female bettas
5 gallon: one male betta
Man that is so many tanks! And so many FISHIES! I'd be so happy

I probably wouldn't have very many friends and I'd never get married tho! Oh well, who needs friends when you've got your fishies?

Yah that is way off topic. I've been doing that so much lately, I'm sorry for taking over. Would it make you feel better if I asked what your dream tanks would be? Remember, your a super-human and you have unlimited money, room, and energy!

Wow, those sound like some awsome tanks! I hope you get all of them one day!! So here is my dream tanks.. which is alot.. but here it goes!!
Well, I would of course still have my 55 gallon planted tank, with the goldies I have noe
Then I would have a 100 gallon, with 2 panda butterflies, and some gorgeous orandas. Probably a couple of calico ones!
A 55 gallon salt water, with a beautiful puffer, and some gorgeous coral.
40 gallon cichlid tank. I really like rams, their soo colorful, but lately ive taken a liking to blood parrot cichlids. They just have the cutest faces!
A 29 gallon corner tank, with a couple of gouramis, and some tetras as well. Not sure what kind I would get. Maybe some neons.
60 gallon angel fish tank. Just angel fish though. About 5, but im not positive, because I dont know much about them, so I wouldnt know how much space they need.
And then about 5 of those 5 gallon mini bows with a beautiful betta in each one.. LOL, wow, thats alot of tanks!!! I could add more to the list, but I could get pretty carried away! LOL, I would be such a slave to my fish then! I wouldnt have time for anything! If I did have all those tanks, I would prob. have to hire someone to take care of them
LOL, and I cant leave out the giant pond! A 3000 gallon would be awsome! Something really big that takes up alot of the backyard!!

That sounds so wonderful

I guess if I had unlimited energy I would have a huge koi pond too! With all these nice flowering plant gardens everywhere, and water lilies! (I'm a super human too...keeping plants alive is not my thing

)
I saw a 55 gallon full of little cichlids at the layd's house where I got my new 29. It looked so pretty

My DAD even like it!
I don't know much about angels either, but I think I saw somewhere that they should have 10 gallons for fish like goldies. They also need a tall tank with lots of aeration so their vertical growing fins won't be stunted. Don't quote me tho! I'm not too much of an angel fan...they're really pretty, but I think they look evil!! Lol.
BigRedandBlindWillie
Jun 24 2005, 11:57 AM
LOL

Yeah if you think about it, do they do look pretty evil!!! HAHAHA.... I never thought about it that way.. but its sooo true!
I had an angel fish in the past, but she didnt live more then 2 months.. I had no idea what i was doing. This was before I had goldies and leanred a thing or two about keeping fish. LOL, she was was soo pretty.
I really like the marbel angels. Everytime i see them, I want one soo bad. Theres just something about them I like. But ive heard they can be pretty mean to other fish, so I would prob. only have them by themselves!
