I currently have 3 tetras in a 5 gallon mini bow and they are doing fine. I replaced the gravel yesterday since the other stuff was old (took the fish and half the water and put them in a tub, then put in new already established gravel and fake plants). They are doing good and the tank looks sooo nice now. I was wondering what other kinds of tetras will shoal with neons? I like neons but I'd like like 3 more tetras of a different type that will shoal with the neons. Is this possible or should I just get 3 more neons?

Thats a good questions. I know ive had my lamp eyed tetras shoul with neons in the past. Im not positive on what would shoul with them. Sorry I cant be more help. Someone with more knowledge on this stuff will chime in, im sure. Good Luck, and let us know what you decide on!

you will need a much bigger tank to see fish shoaling at great effect. with most small fish they tend to bunch up all together and dont always stick with their own kind. for a nice group size its best to go with at least 6 of each type.
if youre looking for more fish for the 5 gallon then i'm afraid you wont get any more in without it becoming way overstocked.
i have a 34 gallon u.k and its got mostly tetras in it but they all shoal together.
if you want fish that stay together then danios are a good choice.
if you want two types and dont want them to shoal together then try different body shapes. neons and phantom tetras for example i wouldnt have thought would shoal together but if you got neons and similar shaped fish such as the black neon or cardinal then they would swim together.

I've been wondering for a while if black neons and neons would school together. Finaly found my answer! I plan on a twelve gallon tank with six tetras and a betta. Can I have three black neons and three neons/cardinals or should I just have six blacks?
