I have Just added 2 Black Moors to my 2 Common and 1 Veiltale Goldfish. The pet shop from which I bought them added a small sprig of some sort of grreen plant to the bag I took them home in. I added the plant together with the fish and within about 30 Mins my other fish had stripped it bare! Although the Black Moors didn't seem particularly interested. What may it have been? Is it a good idea to add plants for food? If so what kind are best?

laugh.gif It could have been any kind of plant! When it comes to eating them,Goldfish aren't picky at all! rofl3.gif I'm surprised about the Moor's not eating them. They are the worst in my tank-they love the Greens! As for adding plants as food, that's too funny! Most people are asking what Goldies won't eat! rolleyes.gif I myself throw in some Anacheris for them on occasion, and sometimes some Cabomba or something. They're relatively cheap, and the fish seem to love them. Your fish will also get a thrill out of veggies/some fruits etc. smile.gif

Just a moment after posting last mail I read one asking what plants could be added that the fish wouldn't eat! lol. I am very new to keeping fish smile.gif . I am a great believer in eating healthily and would love the same for my fishies> Don't like the look of this flaky stuff! LOL

Try banana plants, or Nymphoides aquatica; it has roundish leaves and large, banana-like tubers on it's stem, and is fairly low maintainance. I'm starting planting myself, and bought one of these. I posted about it and Smack replyed and said that her fish left it alone, but said the snails ate it. I'm going to try it and I can let you know how it goes; although I think it just depends on some fish. I would try a few cheap aquarium plants and see what happens.

Also, there is a list of several aquarium plants that Koko made and were pinned to the top of the fourm. This is the site:

The banana plant isn't on their but can still be used for aquariums. Good luck in your quest to find plants.

the sprig was prolly Anacharis, its a long, green free floating plant, that most fish enjoy DEVOURING!
