ive always wanted to try this, but dont know how. does anyone have the instructions to do so?
Chishower
I tried looking for a way on the internet, but couldnt find one.

I'ma throw an idea out there...maybe make a really thin liquid, almost like a gel food but really thin and with no lumps...spread it on a cookie sheet, let it dry, then scrape it off in flakes?

I will keep looking for you, and maybe someone else has a real recipie.

I'm pretty sure stuff like that are massed produced and pretty costly if you try to make it yourself one at a time, and by the time it's done I'm sure the food would be so processed you won't get the nutrients you payed for.

its always fun to try new things, such as gel food. people make gel food, i want to make flake food.

Chishower, thanks! best of luck on your finding. tongue.gif

I have been looking that up for awhile. Havent found much info on it, but have run across some things like recipes for foods.

You would need to make a very fine paste that was thin enough to lay on a sheet. The sheet and oven would need to be level so that the thin paste doesnt drain to one side or the other. As far as what temp? or the amount of time needed that would be guess work and youd probably have to watch it very closely. To high a temp or too long and youd burn it.

I also thought about dehydrating that might be easier to control than an oven. Right now your guess is as good as mine basically. You could experiment and give us the results

Anyhow I will look into this some more today and see if I can find any thing. If I find something I'll post it here.

So far Ive looked up some potato flake companies. I would say They pulverize or mill the mix then it is pressed between rollers and baked into sheets at about the same time. Since we do not have rollers to press and bake it might be hard to get the flake thin enough to be of any use.

I am sure there is a way to create flakes but it might be alot easier just to make the paste thicker and freeze it into small cubes or flat in a ziplock. Alot less time consuming too.

Also if you have a pasta machine you could make it similar to a pasta mix and use the thinest setting you could find and make pellets by cutting them off every so often and then drying them either in the oven on low or dehydrater.
