i've tried 3 other websites and so far i havent got any help

I dont know what happened, and it might be too late now, but my betta stopped eating this morning and in a matter of hours he's got these white stringy stuff hanging from his head area, his pectoral fins are campled and his eyes cloudy. I couldnt see anything before because the betta is white. But he looks like he's aged 10 years!
Oh my god he looks so bad. He stays at the surface most of the time, then he goes to the bottom and kinda tilts to the side. It all happened so fast!! Last night he was fine. He ate and all... This morning when I went to feed him, he didnt want it, which I thought it was weird, but he didnt have any other symptom.

Im so desperate! I've never had any fish sick like this. He really looks like he's not gonna make it

Im treating with Maracyn and Maracyn 2. What else can I do? Any ideas pf what it might be??

Please, help!

Before someone asks me ammonia and nitrites are both 0, pH 7.5

Ive taken some pictures. Sorry if the quality is not good

Sorry to hear about michelangelo. Not that there is a good thing about this, but at least you have the piece of mind of knowing his suffering was short lived. I know that doesn't help because he is still gone. I hope you feel better soon. sad.gif

: cry3.gif So sorry about your Betta.Definately sounded like columnaris was the culprit to me,and the cloudy eyes could have been the first stages of Popeye.Maracyn was a good choice to try and help him with. The thing about columnaris,is that if you don't catch it immediately,it just too late unfortunately. How much water do you change weekly? What were the NitrAte readings?Did you also gravel Vac his gravel? Once again,I am very sorry.
sandy
i'm really sorry you lost him, but there wasnt really anything you could have done for him as it is very difficult to cure in bettas. cry3.gif

I'm sorry about your betta. I've never seen an all white betta, he must have been sooo pretty.

Now that I look at the pictures, though, I think that might have been what killed off my first betta. sad.gif

thank you sad.gif

i cant believe how fast it happened! one day he was fine, next morning he didnt want to eat anymore. sad.gif at night he had cloudy eyes and later whitish stringy hanging from his head!! i found him dead at 3 am!!

i do 25 - 30% weekly water changes. that morning, when i saw he didnt eat, i did another 20% water change. i always vaccum the gravel, although i cant go too deep because it's sand.

i have always problems with nitrates. it's hard to keep them below 50 ppm, that's why i introduced some live plants. i've had him for about 6 months and as i said he was fine until last morning.

i gave him some live bloodworms last week... could have been it?

sad.gif I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your little one.

It sounds like this came out of the blue, and indeed, these things can hit out of nowhere, I've been there. My thoughts are with you 00001649.gif heartpump.gif

Aw, poor guy, he was beautiful! I'm so sorry we couldn't help you, Columnaris takes them pretty hard. sad.gif

It shouldn't have been the live worms, mine only get live worms, but did you rinse them off before feeding? Often people do not realise they need to rinse them, if you don't the worms wastes from their water gets passed on to the digestive tract of bettas and can cause infection.

I have to say that it was probably more the water quality ,and not the Blood Worms, myself. Also, when using sand, you have to stir through it on occasion as to not let bad aeromona pockets of gas form in the water because that could be deadly to a fish.

water quality?
what do you mean? i dont have ammonia, i dont have nitrites and unless nitrates (which might be a little high, something around 50 ppm) did it, , i cant see a water issue here. the tank is not overstocked and to be honest this is my best tank in terms of water quality.

i tend to believe it was the fact that i didnt wash/rinse the worms. i had no idea i was supposed to do it. the water they came on from the store, is the water they're still in now.

i also introduced 4 new cories to the tank. it might have been it as well, since one of the cories died next day and they all look skinny to me. i know i should've quarantined them, and i wont make the same mistake again!

rolleyes.gif I claim to be no expert here. I can go by my own experiences- that's all. rolleyes.gif I have fish that are bothered by what you consider Nitrates, "A little high" As soon as they read over 20,these fish start having problems. What kind of testing kit are you using by chance? And also, with the cory's,how did you acclimate them? Did you check your ph against the water that they came in? I know what your water is testing today/Was it testing that two days ago? A week ago?
chrisinha
well, i test my water every day because im a little obsessed with it. and every day my water is ammonia 0, nitrites 0, ph 7.5. i use aquarium pharmaceuticals master test kit, because i use prime as dechlorinator. my tap water contains nitrates so it's an issue for me. the lowest i've got is 50 ppm.
i did acclimatize the cories little by little by adding my water to the water which they were in. after a couple of hours, i finally put them in the tank. i tested the store's water and the readings for ammonia were over 4 ppm. ph was pretty much the same. store's nitrites were 0. day after one of the cories were dead.

i've had the betta for over 6 months and my nitrates have always been 50 ppm. Funny how he didnt die before.... funny how all my other fish are thriving.... rolleyes.gif
