Hi all,

Just bought my first Fantail goldfish.

Worried about the food I feed it.

The pellet size is quite tiny, here is a photo I took of one pellet:

I fed my fantail 8 pellets and he ate them within 2 minutes.

Would you say from the size of that pellet, that 8 is just about right,
or too much?

Red.

It depends, how big is the goldfish?

You don't want to feed him too much at once, so you could try four in the morning and four in the evening, and dont forget to supplement with fresh veggies.

Congrats on the newfish.gif

I feed my fish pellets that size and they eat a lot more than a few!! It definatly depends on the size of the fish. My guys range from 1 1/2 to 8 inches long and there are 4 of them, but I put in three 'pinches' of pellets twice a day. Sorry I can't be more specific with the number, never counted really rolleyes.gif A pinch might equal about 10- 15 pellets?? blink.gif

Hi Chishower,

He's about 1 and a half inches long.

From looking at your posts, I think 10 pellets maximum is enough.

Is it better to feed 5 in the morning and 5 in the evening to balance out its diet, or 10 in one go?

I understand that goldfish can get use to a routine of when food is being feed to them?

Redeem: I think splitting it up would be better. That way, you won't risk overfeeding and some of the things that go along with overfeeding. And dont forget the veggis!

Your sushi looks like my guy Angus, he's a huge piggie too! LOL biggrin.gif

Hi Cris,

Would the veggis i.e. 5 cooked pea, be in additional to the normail food intake?

I assume it would be a treat for once in a while i.e. every 2 weeks?

I personally don't really even feed pellets anymore. In one crazy night, I whipped up a batch of gel food with a bunch of stuff in it (peas, spinich, applesauce, brine shrimp, ect) and they go crazy over it.

thats a good thread on gel food. You can really put just about anything in it, though.

If you do feed pellets, I would say mix the peas and such in on a daily bases, maybe pellets for one meal and veggies for the other?

LOL Okay thanks all for the advice.
