I'm pretty sure thazt rosy reds and barbs aren't the same things...because in washington state rosy reds aren't legal anymore, and i've seen rosy barbs in our lfs's....

rosy red minnows and rosy barbs are two different fish. the barbs are very nippy if not kept in very large groups.

Yes they are as the minnows can grow to 3 inches.

Do they eat goldfish food too? What temperature do they need?

They eat the same food and will take the lower temperature goldies do though not pond temperature, but i dont know if anyone keeps them in ponds through the winter.

if rosy reds are those types of fish they usually sell as feeder fish, then yea they are ok. Be forwarned though that on occassion they do like to nip at fancies tails. I have one in my tank, and it tends to scurry behind my goldies and give their tails a tug. so i dont know what they would do in large groups. However, whitecloud minnows and bloodfin tetras, are pretty and ive never seen them nip at tails.

If they are small enough the goldies WILL eat them!

Now this is not necessarily a BAD thing.....I feel that occasionally feeding live food is actually good for the goldfish. It is an excellent food source and I think the "chase" is good exercise & stimulates them! There used to be a LFS that had a brine shrimp tank, you could get a tiny net full for like 50 cent or a dollar) Man the goldies went

for those things!!

may just be me, but i wouldnt want them eating other 'pet' fish

Honestly I couldn't do it either. Even though goldfish are omvivorous it just wouldn't feel right. Then there is the huge risk of disease in those feeder tanks

I don't want to start anything though, I respect Jeana's opinions.
