I was at petsmart the other day looking at bettas. I saw one and I was completely startled!! The long droopy fin just behind the gills was all torn up, and there were two, ball-like bubble sacs hanging on it! Blue in color just like most of the fish, and about the same size as his eye, maybe a bit larger. The fins were pretty torn and there was a chunk missing in the tummy fin (sorry I don't know much anatomy lol) What is wrong with this fish and what are those bubbly things???

I have seen round balls form in betta's fins. I think it may be scarring from the damage.

Poor betta, sounds horrible. sad.gif

Aw, now that's a sad sounding betta. He's probaly been sitting on a shelf without care for a while to have accumulated those sacs. sad.gif

I felt bad for him...he seemed pretty active tho. He flared at me! I guess its one point on the good side for the little guy smile.gif

sad.gif That's really sad to hear about the little guy. Those little "balls" seem to form when fin rot is left untreated for too long of a time.I've owned a betta that I bought like that once.He never did get rid of the little balls on the end of his fins,so maybe it does turn out like touchofsky said-like a scarring type process. The little guy made it with me for a year though,so I was glad to keep him that long. smile.gif

Does that mean the betta's fin rot is gone and healed or still going?
