Rocks in Goldfish Mouth
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well Radar Got the rock the size of a pinky in his mouth and if you guys know the teeth in a goldfish throat is faced down the throat so when you try to pull the rock the teeth come up......So when I saw him faced down in the gravel I knew there was something wrong. Picked him up looked in and there was this rock that fit so perfectly in the mouth and so smooth too.......
So I was holding him and hubby came in with the tweezers and tried to pull it out, well the rock was to smooth and couldn't grab it hard enough to get it away from the teeth.....so then hubby looked for something else.....a paper clip.....took the paper clip stretched it out and then curved the top part so it was in a L shape.....placed it very carefully in the back part of the throat and pulled on the rock and then used the tweezers to help pull the rest of the way out, but it took some time so that you wouldn't damage the mouth. The rock was the size of his throat so it was important not to just pull fastly out of the mouth but at a slow pace......The only other way was to break his mouth.
He was hurting for a day or two I stayed home and watched him and if he flipped over ( goldfish Dead position) I would gently grab him and place him up right. I know this might sound strange but I also talked to him too, to let him know that everything will be okay. The next day he was back to normal and eating everything he could get his mouth on

I know how freaky it is Koko!! This happened to my black moor and my dragon eye...so so scary. Also, the other day my dragon eye got another one caught in his mouth and luckily he got it out himself. I am always scared that this will happen when I am not home. Mischievious little things! That's good that you and your husband got the rock out okay Koko....I never knew about their teeth either...thanks for the info!

Koko, you scared me, when you said you picked him up, I thought you meant he had died...I was so sad, and then the next day he was back to normal....What a relief! I thought he had gone...

Well Guys not to end the story in a bad note but Radar has been dead now for about 6 months......I had to put him down cause of a bad case of Swim bladder disorder and he had an open sore on his back from not being able to flip up right. He had been and I had been fighting it for 4 months there was no one around here to preform the operation and he was to old to send him to the goldfish connection. I didn't want to perform it cause I was to afraid of him dieing under the sleeping stuff.......I'm still torn up about him he was 13" from head to tail and the most friendly and caring goldfish I have ever had.....He loved all the other fish around him and played with them never chased them though like a gentle whale
Rest in peace Radar

What a beautiful fish Koko, I'm sorry he's gone. Just think though, you saved his life once before I really like that fish! What kind was he?
