unless its a bigger tank though, bettas and guppies can live together if enough space.

Hmmm I dont even remember posting what I wrote... It doesn't even go with whats going on
It must of been when I was on another forum
But anyway it actually pretty easy to tell the different between a male and female guppy. First, the males are usually the prettier but other then that the females you should see a gravid spot (its a dark spot in their belly near their vent) sometimes you can only really see it if she pregnant though. Males have a gonopodium that females dont have (it a modified fin near their butts)

Leo, for the five gallon, I would definately tick to a male betta, or if you could get a tank divider, (seperate the tank into two halves of 2.5 gallons), I think it would be allright to keep two males in it

. Make sure that the fish cant jump over the divider !

Actually, males can be quite bad towards their partners if they arent ready to breed, males wont really fight, just annoy each other to death, even in the wild fights are just a last resort, they would usually flare at each other until the weaker one went away, but if it didnt , then it would get beaten up XD its not a good idea to keep males in the same tank without a divider.
