i have a 10 gal in my 4 yr old sons room. it has some tropicals, two brigs(snails) and 3 dwarf frogs. everyone has been fine and dandy. then i noticed that the pleco (common) was getting rather large for this tank and that he seemed to always be "accidentally" sucking on the frogs. so we returned him to the store since i don't have another tank for him. i am planning to get a bristle nose for that tank.

ok, now for the 911. last night hubby noticed that the one was floating towards the top ( they do that sometimes) but that it didn't look too good and that another one looked funny too. so when i went in there this morning to check on them the one has white fuzz completely covering his two back feet!!! and the other one has it just starting on his back. the 3rd looks fine and all fish look fine. so here's my dilemma. i can't salt cuz of the snails. is there a different med i can use? should i use an ick treatment? should i quarantine the frogs and treat them only? should i remeove the snails and treat the whole tank? my son doesn't even know the frogs are sick yet. he's going to be devistated if they die. he gets so sad when any of our fishy friends die. he cries. he's like his mama, so attched to our fishie babies. i have to do something for his beloved frogs.

HELP!!!!
( this is my son "helping type  biggrin.gif  )

Hi Cyndi, sorry to hear that you're having froggy problems. Can you give me the parameter's of that tank? And also, this fuzzy stuffdoes it look like their skin is shedding right off of them? Frogs do shed their skin.I remember the first time I saw that on mine-and I was freaked! ohmy.gif
Erika
Yeah, mine shreds, and then eats it.... GROSS. crap.gif

hi! thanks for the replies. i have seen them shed before, it's not that. it's actually this thick white fuzz growing on them. i went to the lfs i got them at and she was very kind got me the right meds and told me what to do and everything. i also checked a froggy site ( don't know why it didn't occure to me that there was one of those? huh.gif ) and the med the lfs gave me was one of the first ones reccomended. they are now in asmall QT with the meds in there and hopefully we'll beat this thing. it's appearantly some kind of fungal infection that is extremely difficult to get rid of. sad.gif so i'm really hoping they pull through.

thanks for the help!!

hugs!!!!

So it was some kind of fungus eh? I hope the meds work, keep us posted! I've had my frog for 13 years and he's my baby heartpump.gif , they are such great little guys.

I sure hope your frogs pull through, and please keep us posted on their progress.

BTW, if you don't mind, could you tell us what med it was that they suggested for the fungus. It would be good to know for future reference. exactly.gif
cyndl
for future refrence the med was called Mar-Oxy. from what i understand, my frogs already had it too bad to recover.

sadly all three frogs succumbed to the fungus and died. my son is very sad. we told him that we would go get some new frogies. he sais "i don't want new froggies, i just want my old ones" sad.gif so i guess no more frogs for us.

hugs,

Aw, the poor litle guy sad.gif It is so hard for children to understand these things. He may come around to getting some new frogs in time.

Take care and tell your son that we are all sad that his frogs died.
tinkerbell

sad.gif I'm sorry to hear that you lost your frogs. Those little guys are very sensitive to Meds for sure.I've had them on and off for years.I'm also willing to say that I am very leary of using any Meds with them. If I recall, some years back,my Bristlenose needed Meds, and I was told the frogs would be fine with the Meds. By the next day,I had lost about 12 frogs! ohmy.gif crap.gif I'm almost positive that it was Maroxy that I used. I had one other incident with one of the dwarfs being sick, and he also died.In the future,I'd be very careful of what you try. They're definately very hard to treat,I guess because everything immediately absorbs into their body???? idont.gif I've learned to start with half doses, and go from there. It would be great to find a Med for frogs that you definately know would be safe! exactly.gif

Ohhh, I'm so sad to hear you lost your frogs crap.gif . I just checked on two newts I bought last week and noticed some white spots on one, I was hoping your meds had worked so I could pick them up. Amphibians are so difficult sometimes! That skin of theirs absorbs everything !

I'm so sorry to hear about your / son's frogs!!! I really wish they could talk because this trial-and-error thing really stinks! You tried hard and that counts for something - would you consider getting your son some new frogs? I remember when my first pet died - it was so awful - I thought I could never have another pet again! But, my little friend knew better and she gave me a pet to love - and it really helped! Best wishes to you and your son - heartpump.gif
