I went up stairs lo look in on my fish and what do i see but a little brown snail this big ( ) stuck on the side of my tank. I have NO idea where he came from. He's got a brown body and a brownish shell and i can see through it. he seems to have black spots on his shell as well. I DID have some snail eggs that kept on dissapearing and i assumed that silly tator-tot ate em. Is it possible they hatched? he kinda looks like my old snail paulie. there were eggs and paulie layed them. im sure of it! mabey thats where it came from. HELP!

It could be from some formerly hidden eggs from Paulie. That seems to me like the likliest (ok, I can't spell that) situation, but it is also possible that it's a pest snail that could have come in off of new plants. Have you gotten any recently?

Yes actually, I cot a combomba a few weeks ago. But it certianly DOES look like paulie.
EDIT: what do I feed him? i took him out of the 10 gal and put him in something else because tator-tot would have eaten him because hes so small. I put some fish food in there, but other than that what do you suggest?
And is it ok to keep a 'pest snail'? I dont think he is though because hes a spitting image of little paulie

Thats the last thing paulie left us.

Do you know what kind of snail Little Paulie was?

No, I think he was a rams horn because he was the only one i had in there and the eggs were fertilised. But I was looking at smacks post and I read your thing about light spotted brown snails being a pest snail. and thats what he looks like. Is he ok to keep?

Do you have any pictures? Just because Paulie self-fertilized doesn't mean it's a Ramshorn.
Does this look like Paulie's shell?
http://www.applesnail.net/content/photogra...risa_eating.jpgAt the stickies there is a list of foods that snails eat. Try something off there.
You can keep a pest snail if you really want to. Usually they end up multiplying rapidly and over-running a tank, eating plants, etc. Not a good situation. If I were you I would keep the snail but in a small separate container simply for observation.

Ohhh nooo It doesnt look like it at all. I thought only rams horns self fertilised. I was wrong! He is currently in a container by his self. Ill keep him seperat from my tanks and keep em in a 2.5 gallon. Im getting another 10 gal for my b-day for my bettas so i'll have an extra 2.5 gal so ill put him in there! I jsut think snails are so cute...

I love snails!
I don't quite remember all the species that can self-fertilize. MTS I think can.. Physids/Planorbids (pest snails) can..
Most likely your bettas will eat him. He's small and Bettas can be aggressive.. that doesn't mean they will, but there is a possibility of it. I'd just keep him off by himself in a small aerated container.

I wont. Im getting a 10 gal for my birthday to put my bettas in. The 2.5 gal will be empty. hes going in there. hes in by himself now.

can snails eat iceburg lettuce or only romain?

Cool! A red ram!
They can eat iceburg lettuce but it's easier for them to eat romaine. Also, iceburg lettuce has next to no nutritional value. Plus it's gross. (Ok, that last one was my opinion.) But I don't see any reason why you couldn't feed it to them.

I held it up a little. I was SOOO worried it was gonna slip off of my fingers! baby snails have thin shells. I had one that came on my brig (it was stuck on its back! lol) and i held it too tight and opps!
