Half or more of the tank is Black sand substrate. The other part is red gravel.i have a big flat rock dividing the two.Among the plants, are two or three types of Val,Anubia's Melon/Amazon Swords,Lily Bulbs, etc. I have a thing about bridges,If it was up to me,and I could find the one that I'm looking for,I'd probably have a bridge in every tank. rolleyes.gif My very favorite decoration is in this tank-I don't recall if you can see it,but it's a miniature Myan Head! laugh.gif
sandy
i think your tank is lovely devs. the black sand shows off his blue beautifully heartpump.gif . its nice too that he is in a 5 gallon rather than the little 1 gallons you see.
i only noticed the mayan head after you posted about it smile.gif
Black oranda
biggrin.gif Very lovely tank Sharon, my bettas tank is also a hex.
TamtheLittleBlackMoor
Wow, I wouldn't have guessed it was only a 5 gallon if you haden't said. Being hex it almost looks to be like 8-9 gallons! I also dig the plants, brings it a natural look, the Myan head and the bridge fit perfectly. Beautiful betta you have in there, what might his name be?

biggrin.gif Thanks all!!! Yea,these types of tanks always look so much bigger than a 5 gal. His name is Laser. He is one of the famous baby Betta's from the spawning of Snap & Levi---in "Betta's gone Wild" yeah.gif laugh.gif

I love your tank Sharon. You have created a wonderful home for Laser ... a little tropical betta paradise biggrin.gif

smile.gif We all need a little Paradise! The only thing that bums me out,is the Amazon plant with the spots on it. sad.gif I got it on line,& it was beautiful. The only bad thing was that I saw some tiny creepy crawler in the bag,& got freaked. I soaked it in PP and noticed these spots later. I'm not sure if it was the PP,air hitting the leaves or bruising from shipping. rolleyes.gif Oh well, they'll drop off & the new ones will look great! wink.gif

Prettier than mine would EVER be.

It is very pretty. I would love for my plants to look so good but my black thumb seems to extend to aquarium plants as well. smile.gif

What a great tank!!! Now you've got me thinking about what I can do with my empty 5 gallon tank, my poor Yoko could sure use an upgrade from his boring 3 gallon bowl! sad.gif
Devs
laugh.gif Thanks again! C'mon Andrea,There are alot of easy low light plants! You'd be surprised! wink.gif

I think I have killed them all. I have 2 onion plants (vals?) and a java fern that is stuck in a crack on my driftwood. It's not even in substrate. I have killed hogswort and anacharis. The deaths were both messy with lots of dead leaves everywhere. I know I am just beginning but I was so sad. I loved the way they looked before they died but I hated cleaning up the mess. It took weeks.

I'll try again someday with something new. I really want some moss on my drftwood.

Don't apologize for having your java fern growing on your driftwood and not in the substrate, since java fern shouldn't be planted in the substrate but grown on driftwood or attached to rocks biggrin.gif

Maybe you should try some anubias or cryptocornes. They do well with low light and are fairly tough. As for stem plants, I have done well with hygrophilia.

Also, java moss would be great to try on your driftwood.

biggrin.gif Yes,touchof sky is right! Anubia's & Crypts are some of my very all time favorites!!!!! And Look at this Sword Plant,it grows in my frog tank with one of those tiny little lights! ohmy.gif laugh.gif user posted image
