In my guppy tank I have worms. I was away for around a day and a half and before I left I did a water change and let them fast so no food in there. I saw 4 of them, they are really tiny like maybe an 1/8 of an inch when they are fully stretched out. I know you can get them when you have gravel but its a bare bottom so where did they come from and what are they. My guppies wont eat them... I dont even think they can see them.

probably those parasite worms, i think they come from guppy poop.

Are they white? Alot of times a dirty tank will get them, but then again,I recently read that you can see them in new tanks so..... idont.gif laugh.gif

Eww, so guppies can get worms like a dog can? If they are parasites could they have gotten them from eating deformed fry? My one guppy had babies again and the first time she had them they all turned out deformed.

Yeah they are little tiny white worms, they like climbing on the glass near the top.

Should I put salt in there just in case they are parasites? That should kill them right?

Check your filter. They could be in there sad.gif

I just checked everything out in my tank again. There were a few, I only saw like 3 of them in and around the filter. I try to keep that clean cause its only a sponge filter (one of those corner ones) until I move them all into a bigger tank. But there's about 20 in between the glass and the plastic breeder box I have in there. Could there be a trace amount of food stuck in between there that I cant see? I don't usually move that.

Since the guppies aren't eating them how should I get rid of them? There's already 3 times what I saw in there last night and I don't want them all over my tank.

I've gotten them before in my Clawed frog tank.I basically did a water change, and a good vac on the sand substrate, and that was it. I think when I first sat that tank up,I was so busy trying not to suck up the sand substrate that I wasn't cleaning enough. rolleyes.gif They just kind of disappeared after that, and I've come to not worry about the sand so much! laugh.gif

they are probably planaria and may be living in the filter silver. they are harmless and occur anyway, they dont need gravel to live in. cut back a bit on the feeding and be more thorough with the cleaning of the filter.
