I'm wondering when mine'll start hatching! It's been like 3 weeks now, and I still have 5 clutches that are just sittin there.

On top of that, I have a spixi clutch that's close to hatching, and I have about 4 ramshorn clutches that are about to hatch. The spixi clutches and ramshorn clutches are easy to see the babies inside. The brig clutches... not so much. dry.gif

Wow!! I wish I had room for another snail so I could have some babies! Congratulations on the new babies. I know it's old hat to you but it seems very exciting to me. smile.gif

LOL...i prefer to leave my clutches on their little styrofoam rafts.. I think theyre gonna hatch soon though, at least some of em...theyre getting really dark now!

wow. little widdle brigs!
Erika
Ugh... I spoke too soon! The rams eggs are hatching. There's tiny little snails climbing outta the snot balls!!

I'll be getting rid of them and the adults and the clutches though. Apparently rams have a liking for spixi eggs. dry.gif

Okay, now one of my brig clutches (the first one, the biggest one) is sooooo dark. How long till they start poppin outta the clutch?

rolleyes.gif The first couple clutches that I ever had, really didn't get to "pop out". I was so impatient,& worried they were going to dry out, that I picked them up and realized that I could see the babies, and the top of the clutch was really mushy. I read on the Apple Snail site, that you could take the clutch,& swish it around in tank water, and that's what I did. ignore.gif When they're ready, the top kind of starts caving in for lack of better words. All the other clutches have hatched without me. So.....................What I guess I'm telling you is that I have no idea when! tongue.gif hahahahahaahha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably any second!!!

You're soooo helpful. rolleyes.gif

Here's a question for ya Sharon, maybe you can answer it. (I posted it at applesnail.net too)

Question...

Are snails sensitive to temp fluctuations like fish are? Reason is, my snail tank is in the basement, and my sink down there won't fit my python since I have 2 sperate faucets for hot and cold, and it I put a mixer on them my python won't fit in the sink. Could I just use cold to add back when I do a water change? unsure.gif

I seeeeeeee youuuu!!! laugh.gif

unsure.gif Well,I'm no Einstein when it comes to snails-that's for sure Hun,but I have to believe that any type of temp fluctuation for any thing-fish ,snails, etc, won't be a good thing. especially when cold water comes out really cold. cold.gif Looks like you may have to go back to 5 gal.Buckets-which I'm sure will be a real pain! Do you have heater's in the snail tank? I think I remember seeing one. unsure.gif I was just thinking that then you could let the water sit & match room temps. I use a heater in all of mine. Brings on the clutches. yeah.gif
Erika
Nah, there might be one in there, but I don't have it on. It stays about 72 down there, so I figure it's warm enough for em. I know warmer water brings on the babies, but it also shortens lifespans, so I forgo it. 5 gallon buckets again?? MAN........ dry.gif
