I am at my grandparents house (as you know i got them a new tank and fish) and I looked at the filter and there was green slime on the part that the water comes out of. Is that bad? I touched it and some fell off and the fish (mae) ate it.I read somewhere that the slime/algea is a good snack for them. Am I right?

Yep, thats what it is - algae. Maybe the light of the tank is closest there, or that place is particularly exposed to light. My outflow looks like that most of the time, and when I wipe it off, I just let it drop in the tank. It never lasts long in there....laugh.gif

Ok thanks for the info. Now the fish have a new food source. Wouldnt that be funny if you saw a fish jumping up to the filter eating the algae then the fall back down hah.gif .

Mine gets the same exact way. I wipe mine off about every week in a half, and by the time I do, the algea is long, and starting to flow into the tank, but doesnt come off. The first time I cleaned it off, it went ALL over my tank, now I make sure I dont let any get into the tank, just because my goldies dont always eat all of it, and then it just fits there on the bottom of the tank.... yucky. But they sure do love to eat it!
