I don't really like any of the backgrounds that I've seen... and so I started thinking.... has anyone ever painted a background on a fishtank? seeing as the paint would be on the outside it wouldn't be toxic to the fish...

Any thoughts?

Well, it might be time consuming to paint it, and unless you're an artist it might come out looking strange. If you don't like the backgrounds, buy just the plain blue one and collage different pictures and things on it, or even just paint on the solid blue background. Hope this helps...

Actually I have seen several tanks that have been painted. One person did a beautiful plant scene with acrylics on the back of their tank. Being glass, it was fairly easy to remove and change when they wanted - a razor blade just scraped it off and they were good to go.

One very creative young person I know has done the back of his tank with a glass paint - the kind sold in the hobby stores. This paint is not opaque like the acrylic - it is translucent colors. He painted a stained glass look on the back of the tank - complete with painted leading. It is really something.

As long as you paint on the outside of the tank, you have no worries. The paint cannot flake or leach into the water and you can have whatever background your talents and imagination can produce!

Go for it! And PLEASE, let us see it when you are done. I love stuff like that! biggrin.gif

Thats a really neat idea. And that stained glass look your talking about Daryl sounds awsome. I would love to do that, but it would probably come out looking funny. I dont like many of the backgrounds either, so I just use the solid black ones. Its reversable, so one side it black, the other side blue.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going the stained glass route now... that sounds like it would look really cool. Except it's Memorial Day, and I'm sure that NOTHING is open. ;p

I hate holidays. They give you the day off work and you have nothing to do.

Went to Michaels today (yay for stores being open!), and bought a set of stained glass paints. I prepped the back of the tank and am working on it one strip at a time... I'm not exactly an artist, but I do this multicolored blobs doodle when I'm bored and have access to crayons, and everybody is always mesmerized by it... so I figured, why not try it on the back of the tank? If I don't like it, I can always remove it, right? ;-)

So... I'll show yas when I'm done (and besides, still waiting on my camera to come in)!
