I have had an ongoing bacterial/viral problem in my main tropical tank since january/february when i lost my adult male koi angel from dropsy, gill disease and popeye. I had nothing really to treat it so i did large water changes but lost him anyway.
I went on to lose two kribs from popeye and dropsy so decided to add extra filtration and carry on with large water changes.
The tank is overstocked but the added filtration seems to be doing fine.
Unfortunately my large female koi angel has come down with popeye and dropsy and as a last ditch attempt to help her i bought 25 tablets of maracyn and maracyn 2 from some one in the u.k. I didnt really get much in the way of instructions and only know the dosage and that i didnt need to do any water changing whilst dosing.
I started them both on Monday as instructed and tomorrow will be the last day for the maracyn.

What i would like to know is, after the last dose when can i do a water change and how much should i do? As the tablets are added every 24 hours i'm assuming that each dose lasts a day so would it be ok to do a water change on the saturday afternoon or do i have to wait a bit longer.

The female angel's popeye has gone down a bit but her stomache is still full of fluid, though she isnt pineconing which seems to me a viral infection.

I dont have any food that has antibiotics in it but i tried her on a bit of medigold but she wouldnt eat them.

Thanks for any info smile.gif

does no one know the instructions then? unsure.gif
shall have to improvise then.
The female angels popeye has nearly gone but shes still bloated. Will probably have to put her down as i dont think i want to redose the tank with the maracyn.

Hi Sandy,
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. In my instruction sheet for Maracyn 2, it recommends a 25% water change once the five day course of treatment is finished.

If you want any other info from the instruction sheet, please just let me know. How are things going today?

hi
thanks for replying. i did a 50% water change two days after so i was close smile.gif

the popeye has gone down a little bit but she has a really swollen belly so i dont know what to do with her, and i'm pretty sure its not eggs. the male went the same way a couple of months ago so i might have to euthenise her. just wait and see i suppose, thanks.

The instructions say that you can repeat the treatment once, so maybe you could try that.

I hope you don't lose your fish. That is always so distressing, especially when you don't really know what is causing the problem sad.gif
