Medigold is easy to break into pieces, and these pieces do soften very quickly in water. Within about 2 minutes, they will be soft enough for your goldy to gum them down. I have been told it is best to not soak the Medigold first, before feeding, as it can cause some loss of medication. I do not soak it. I do think however, if your goldie has an initial interest in the food, but looses interest and stops trying to eat it, even after it has softened, then perhaps soaking it would be best - at least for a bit. Getting the fish to eat the food is the most important thing. It cannot help if it is not in the fish......
It is suggested that you feed as much Medigold as you can get into your fish in every 24 hour period - I used to know the percentage of the fish's weight, but I am not finding it anywhere at this moment and it is not in my head. But I know that it is a substantial amount - as much as you can get into the fish. Unfortunately, when a fish is not doing well, it does not digest as well and the nutrients and medications are not absorbed as well as they perhaps should be. So, simply plug as much into your fish as he will accept.
I generally try to feed my fish that are on MediGold or MetroMeds 3 times a day, with a slightly smaller amount of food than normal. I watch carefully to make sure that there is not a lot of waste. Since, when my fish are not doing to well, I usually end up changing the water far more than normal, I am capable of ridding the tank of uneaten food more quickly than normal, too.
A fish that is too small to eat one pellet at a time would probably only need about 2 pellets at a meal - 3 times a day is a guess..... at least that is what I would aim at. If he eats more - GREAT!
Good luck.

I have had MediGold turn things around very quickly for very sad fishies!
