Well,I'm planning on getting a betta in around a week or so and I just wanted to make sure I'm sure on how to take care of them.I've got a 1 gall hex tank and I'm planning to put him in there. Is there anything special I have to do or get or anything like that??I've also heard bettas are really picky
-Thanks

1 gal. hex is perfect. Hmm, all you really need more is a heater but not many fit in 1 gal tanks. Wal-Mart sells mini heaters. Or if you keep your house bove 65*F you're fine. As for being picky, yes they are! A good thing to do is try many different food options on them, pellets, frozen/freeze dried, or live. Congrats, if you have more questions feel free to ask.

Congrats on getting a betta. Im not sure if you can get heaters for that small of a tank, but its worth looking for one. My bettas like the pellets and freeze dried blood worms.

Wal-Mart sells Jr. Heaters for about $6.00, says they're good for tanks sizes 1-3 gal. Someone posted about them though I do not own them personaly. Worth a look.

To heat my small betta tanks i use reptile heat mats. They're not as good as proper heaters but they keep it warm enough for the bettas

Try getting some nice live plants for him - Java moss/fern and some cabomba would be perfect as is easy to keep growing!!

Good temps for bettas are between 70-85*F, they do vary and some even desipse warm temps. Glad to hear you're picking one up from Wal-Mart, they do need a little help those in the cups. Little tip on picking one out, make sure they have NO holes or missing fins, and are not listless, best thing is to place one you like next to it;s neighbor and see if you can get a flare out of him. That'd be a good choice betta. Good luck and happy hunting!

Yep,We definately love hearing about new Betta's! That one gal., being that it has a light, may be enough to keep the tank warm enough to the Betta's liking. I use that Walmart heater on the smaller tanks, and it usually makes the temps around 80.When the weather gets warm though,I have to unplug them because it makes the smaller tanks get too warm. My Betta's from my personal experience, tend to be alot more active when their water is a warmer temp. Did you find a betta yet?

Okay/okay,We'll give you some more time!

Hi, What are you planning on feeding your betta? I would suggest Tetra-min because it really brought out some bright bright colors with my betta and it a god balanced food.
