I have a 30 gallon tank that had a single angel, a dwarf gourami and a twig catfish. The gourami recently passed away cry3.gif . Well now this tank has a single angel, not a huge one yet, and the twig catfish. I am wondering what types of tank mates would go well in this type of tank. I dont' want to do gouramis anymore, I loved the dwarf but he was our first and would like to just give something else a try. I've read that mollies and platys do well with angels but that they like salt, but I thought angels didn't do well with salt. I'd like to get maybe another small angel (for now) and possibly a small breed of pleco? and then some other type of...something?? I am just unsure of what would go well with the angel and the twig.

Thanks.

i have tetras in my tank with my angel, and i also keep dwarf gourami. i find that they go very well together, plus, you can get the mixture of big fish with little fishes!!

tetras are ok with angels while the angel is small, but some angels can grow into predators of these smaller tetras such as neons and glolights.
if you get another angel make sure it is the same size or slightly larger, as the one you have now will have marked the tank as his territory and may not be too happy about another, and i would suggest getting two more to break up any aggression as cichlids are prone to territorial disputes.
when they are a bit bigger you can resell one of them back to the store.
as for tank mates, theres not many that wont nip the angel fins but you could try red or black phantom tetras which seem to leave them alone.
angels need 10 gallons each and a high tank no less than 18 inches deep for the fins to grow. smile.gif

Great suggestions. I do have another question. It has been my understanding that angels like to be in groups of more than one...is this incorrect? Would he be better off if I did not purchase another angel? We did see some of those rasboras (?) and were wondering if those would do well as well.

thanks for your suggestions and help.

Raith,

The twig catfish was $7.98 here. We have about three very small pet stores and only one that I actually go into. I've not seen these guys until this pet store opened up recently. We just went in today and they did have a couple there. So they are fairly rare here but this pet store seems to have some sometimes. What's even more rare is that we would have something in our little town that is considered rare elsewhere! biggrin.gif

yeah... rare and not that expensive. good saves! im jealous. smile.gif

We fell in love with the twig as soon as we saw them. I did some research on them and went back to get one. I was so shocked that he was still there when we went back to get him. And he is just so much fun. He's definately a conversational fish when company comes over. If they even notice he is there as he really does blend in well. smile.gif

They are great fish! When we get another big tank, more of these guys will definatley need to be bought!
Raith
where do you live? biggrin.gif
