Full Version: Re-sealing A Tank....is It Needed?

I have a couple of older 30 gallon tanks (2) that have been on the shelf for several years, and I have decided to get them out and fill them with goldies. I just packed up the entire kit and caboodle of guppies - I decided I am really NOT a guppy person, and gave them all away ( over 160 guppies - WHEW!), and when I shut down the 20's that the guppies occupied, I am going to have space to stack my 30s. ( I expect I shall pack the 20's away as I did the 30's and they will reappear in the future - I am hoping as an all planted tank - but that is the future.)

The 30 gallon tanks appear to hold water - tests have proved that, but I really see NO sealant in the corners of the tanks! Am I setting myself up for a potential leaker down the road in the near future if I fail to reseal these tanks?

If so - is a good wash and steam clean sufficiant for glass to make the sealant stick properly, or do I need to do an acid wash of some sort? Would vinegar be enough or do I need to really get it "clean room clean"?

I have not resealed a tank in years. smile.gif

I need to reseal a tank too... anyone with information on this?

Also--are there ways to make a tank "stronger"? I know that's a weird question, but I would feel better if I knew how to do it, if necessary.
