I was wondering if a male guppy will breed with my female mollies and platies. The male was chasing the female.

Of the common livebearers, platies and swords cross easily, mollies and guppies, guppies and endler's - basically, fish in the same genus are often able to cross.
usually though, molly crossed guppy are sterile but i havent any real evidence of this as i havent tried it myself.

One of our platies was swimming by the plant and the male guppy went up behind her and his straight fin went out and on her. Did he just do what i think he did to her or what? Should I be expecting babies? How can you tell if a platy ios pregnant?

mating dance, unless you see them attached for 1second, thats releasing sperm i think.

a few years ago I had a platy that bred with a female betta( I actually seen it) of course they never had any babies though.

when they are pregnant, they will get a gravid spot on their bellys.

Would you be able to see black dots through the side of their bellies becuase i can see some black dots on the side!

Yup, it is usually just above the second anal fin, this is sooo awesome!!! ,in a couple of weeks her stomach should be getting bigger and bigger. I think your male guppy may need a couple of females of his own kind.

P.S:This is going to be a weird and wonderfull experience for you if the babies do come out, I wonder what a guppy/platy mix will look like?

ive seen one with extremely long upper fin but the shape is like a guppy. i think it depends on who is the mother.

I am trying to get a female guppy, but i am tight on money and yopu know how that is when you are a kid. 2 of the platies have little black dots on their sides. Thanks! I will try to get pictures of the babies when they tunr up! If they survive becuase the male guppy will most likely eat them but i have a tank that is over populated with plants and the other baby fish survived!!! Do you think the baby will survive becuase i have 5 plants, a bosi tree, and a cave and two shells that allow them to go under the shell and hide? Will they survive, i also have a real live plant floating on the top and i have one of those bosi tree things floating as well! Thanks and sorry for the long post.

it should survive, just feed the guppy daily to keep it from eating or chasing anything. the fry will grow faster if you feed it a lot everyday but in small amounts.
