My betta has been sick for a long time now (fin rot, fungus, bacterial problems). But lately I've been very attentive to his needs, and he's improving greatly. Today he seemed to have discovered the joy of flaring. I've seen him flare before, if I came up real close to him and startled him. But today he was doing it over and over again...swimming around, so proud, gills flared out and fins wide open. Is this normal, healthy behaviour? Or could something be irritating him?
I only have the one betta, and he's in a 2 and a half gallon bowl by himself. I change the water 50% every day right now.

50% seems alot try 50% every 5 days or so. and add some salt tbl spoon per gallon. flaring is a good thing but no alot like yours is doing. it will tier and stress out the lill guy. there is proble somthing within sight of the tank he is seeing as a thret, try to fighure wut it is and move it to a diff spot or move the tank if possible. good luck.

yes flaring is a very good thing but if the betta is faring 4 over 20 to 30 min at a time it will stres them out big time.
