What is the recommended size tank for 2 small (about one inch) goldfish??? Right now I have them in an Eclipse 6. Are they ok in this for awhile?
Thanks for any input

The fancy double tailed varieties need at least 10 gallons of water per fish. The single tail need at least 20. That 6 gallon is not going to cut it. The ammonia is going to build up way fast. They may be small, but they produce MASSIVE amounts of waste. And they produce a toxin that stunts their own growth. Goldfish can grow to be well over a foot in length, if you keep them in such a small tank, they won't grow to their full potential and they could develop quite a few illnesses down the road.

I can speak from experience here. I have two fantails, about an 1 1/2" each. When I bought them I was told an inch of fish per gallon, so I bought a 10 gallon tank. Needless to say, after two weeks I was out buying a 30 gallon tank because my little Neptune started getting ammonia burns. I was changing 50% of the water everyday and when I saw him the next morning he'd have another burn healing.
So from my own personal experience, even though they're small you need 10 gallons per fish for double-tails.

I agree. I know it can seem silly at first, but once you see them start to grow, you understand it alot better. I would go out and buy them atleast a 20 gallon, but from experience, its better to buy the biggest one you can afford. I went from a ten gallon, to a 30 gallon, and then to a 55 gallon.... and still want a bigger one. But im a sucker when I see those cute little goldies at the store... I just want to take them all home!!!

Thank you for all your input. I will have to try to get a bigger one. Hopefully a 10-12 gallon. Its all the room I have

If only space was not a problem!
I love the pics of your goldfish! Nice tank!

I was the same way when I started... had no idea that goldfish needed so much water. Especially when the companies market "goldfish" tanks and show a picture of a 5 gallon tank with 3 goldfish in it!! That's just not right!
I mean, they don't show a medium-sized dog crate with 3 dogs in it! :-)
A 20-gallon tank doesn't take up THAT much room... I have a tiny apartment and it really doesn't use much space.

How many gallons (US?) in a litre (international)?
