We have a little 1 gallon pet carrier that are like 5 bucks and have a handle that i would like to put next to the computer, i was wondering if i could get 2 guppies becuase that is what were in there before, but know there is just one becuase one died and then i thought about a betta? We also have a 2 gallon with an undergravel filter, what one is best and what type of fish should go in each becuase i am putting fish in everyone no matter what. What type type of fish are best? Please try to include pictures!

Does your one-gallon have a filter? I shudder at the immense amount of water-change-action that must go on if you don't...

For the 2-gallon, I'd go with a betta and lots of fun hiding-place plants (plastic) to go with him.

I really don't think the 1 gallon tanks are good for any type of fish, especially if its unfiltered. Too small for a betta.

I can have a little bio bag filter if that would work? It is like 10 bucks at walmart. What about a couple neon tetras or something? I might even get a spongefilter.

Thanks!

i wouldnt put a snail in one gallon never mind a fish. two gallons with a filter for a betta is the smallest and you will need to do lots of water changes for him and make sure the water was warm enough ll the time.
for the one gallon why not try just a couple of plants and see how they do?

smile.gif You can put a Betta in a one gal,but as Sandy said,Be prepared to do water changes alot of times during the week-(Smaller tank unfiltered, is more work) :rolleyes:With summer coming, you may have to step-up even more just to keep up with the water being clear ofAmmonia,/ Nitrites/NitrAtesl If you do go the Betta Route,I would on my opinion,go with real,or silk plants,as plastic plants and Ornaments, can sometimes be a reason why your Betta's fins get holes in it. As for the tropical's,their needs are somewhat more difficult to meet in that size tank. They need a filter/heater,etc, As said in some post.

id go with betta.... so easy to take care of.
sandy
so a betta doesnt even get the inch per gallon sad.gif something wrong somewhere. but i know that in america bettas are kept in awful conditions prior to being sold.
i wouldnt keep my betta in less than four gallons both for health reasons and swimming room.
I know it can work as i have seen it on other sights but more often than not most die or are easily susceptible to disease.
will stop now, dont want to get into an arguement about betta welfare. smile.gif

he has a 1gallon. and best fish to be next to comp. bettas are beautiful and easy to keep. and most of them do well in 1gallon, of course there are everyday water changes.

No fish would be healty, much less happy in a one gallon. Even if you did do water changes everyday, they wouldn't have room to swim and the water would be very unstable (generally more water per aquarium, more stable it would be) and you still need to buy water conditioner and the works. If you upgrade to a five gallon and buy the works, you can happilly hold a betta or a three or minnows, small tetras, or guppies. Trust me, they will be much happier and a five gallon with more fish would surely attract more attention and compliments than a dieing betta that sits at the bottom of a tiny tank X_X Yes, for the one gallon, a snail and a plant would be a nice idea. I kind of want to do that, but I think I would have a two or three gallon. With one snail and a PLANTED plant (not just roots in the water) I believe that you may get away with just a little air stone because there will be a good exchange of O2 and Co2(correct me if 'm wrong) A tiny bit of conditioner is still a good idea.

Even when my bettas were in bowls they were 3 gallon and I changed the water every day after letting it sit out for 24 hours and added dechlorinator. I just now put them in my hospital tank, divided so they have 5 gallons each, filtration, heater, light, and airstone. They are much happier. Their fins are a bit ragged, even after all the work I did do when they were in the bowls. But they're perkier, and their fins are slowly but surely beginning to heal.

So no I don't agree at all with that one gallon per inch rule. I agree with Sandy. My bettas are more then an inch anyways.
