One of the lfs has a ?full grown? black oranda. He is really gorgeous AND expensive. But he has tufts of white, almost like little fuzz or lint, in spots on his wen. This does not completely cover his wen just here and there. He's been there over a month and has always had these.

I know it's hard to diagnose something unseen and obviously I can't give you a picture or the water params. But this lfs is usually pretty good about quarantining if they have a problem. And I'm sure it's the price that has not sold him.

So I was wondering if this is what the breeding stars look like on the bigger goldfish or could this be something else?

its probably new head growth coming in as it can look like white spots, but he has had them a while which makes me wonder. sometimes bits of food and oher bits of tank rubbish can get caught in the wen and cause it to look like that too.
you can use a cotton bud dipped in something to try and clean it but i cant remember what it is you use.
hopefully, someone with more knowledge of wen growth will be able to help you more. smile.gif

I have a blue oranda that has the same white spots on his wen.I asked the breeder that I got them from and he said that it was not a disease.I'm gonna try and snap a pic of my fish so you can see if you are seeing the same thing....

White spots just in the wen are usually a sign of headgrowth and nothing to worry about. Fish with large wens get them frequently. Current thinking is that they are tiny areas of tissue which have gotten compressed as the wen grows and have had the circulation cut off so the tissue dies back a little. smile.gif

Thank you for the pic Kathy - that's exactly what I was talking about in my thread "Strange white dots .. not breeding stars .. anchor worms" in the disease section.

Hey Sandy - did you see those pics? That's what my new fella has. biggrin.gif

You're welcome Annette smile.gif I was curious too because my orandas seems to get them from time to time, only on their wen though.I asked the breeder guy and he said their pimples, not a disease so nothing to worry about blink.gif They do heal in a matter of days...

Saw that big black oranda again today...boy if I only had the room...AND the money!!! heartpump.gif

Anyway....the white spots I originally asked about looked like little tufts of hair coming out of them. No pimple like spots. But when I saw him today...he didn't have any like I described just what I would consider regular growth spots.

But BOY, is he gorgeous!!!!! heartpump.gif heartpump.gif
