Hi I need to know the correct dose for prazi-pro, i have a 20gal tank with 2
comet goldfish. They have the fluke. right now they will not eat . I've used
prazi-pro before with no luck. I'm very concern right now.

My tank is a year old, I've had my fish for two years.
I do weekly water change of 25%.
One fish has pale gills the other is white so I can't really tell on his.
They swim but they are not as active an they normally are.

Hi Jackie and welcome to the site.

I am not sure why you are suspecting flukes, if you could elaborate some on this hopefully someone can help you.

I have not used Prazi before so hopefully someone will be able too.

Hi,

My goldfish flash and the scratch on the gravel. One goldfish has pale gills.
This happens more so then normal. I think my water quality is good. I've
tried salt baths without success, i read that prazi-pro is a good treament
for the fluke so I tried it. They still flash and scratch, and now they are not
eating which has me concerned. I've also tried mardel antibiotics from the
lfs. Could it now be a bacterial infection.

I don not have a microscope, i think its fluke just from reading about
goldish disease.

Thanks Jackie

Jackie without a scope you may not be able to tell, but it does sound like it. I will let Toothless know you are having problems, he is our Parasite expert. In the meantime you can call Rick at Goldfish connection and he can help you as well.

Hi there. smile.gif

I wouldn't suspect flukes right off the bat. There are other parsites that cause the exact sypmtoms you are describing. Namely chilodonella and cosita. Instead of using prazi-pro at this point, try raising the salinity to 0.3% over the course of three days. Then, if you see improvement after 1 week, keep the salinity at this level for 3-4 weeks. If the scratching has ceased once the 3-4 weeks is up. You can pretty safely assume that it was either costia, chilodonella or maybe trichodina and you'll know what to use if they ever make a comeback.

If the salting doesn't seem to be doing too well after a weeks time, go ahead and start up a treatment regime like the one for flukes in the disease treatment forum. Pay special attention to the details I laid out in there and you should have no problem killing off any flukes that may be there. Remember, with parasites, you NEED to be persistant in whatever you do. If you see ANY improvement during a treatment at all, you should consider that med effective and exploit it further. I hold a series of salt dips to be a VERY effective means of expediting a treatment for parasites. But, they have to be done regularly and administered correctly.

After all of this, if they are still scratching, you are either going to have to try out a round or two of Jungles Parasite Clear or some other, similar, med. Also, at this point, I would highly suggest bringing your sickest one in for a scrape and micro-exam. This is THE surefire way to find out what it is and what you need to kill it..........
