I was thinking today of how different Lance's tank looks now than when I first set it up. So, I decided to look at the old pics.

Here is what his tank first looked like, before I got him:

And here is the second phase of tank decorating, after a month or two later...

This is the third stage, when I added some plants...

Finally, this is what it looks like now, after I've had the tank about nine months....

Wow... I totally forgot it used to be so naked.

Now all it's missing is a Gwen.

smile.gif What a change, from empty & barren to well -lived in! It looks great! By the way,was Lance being Camera -Shy? I don't think I even noticed him in a pic! Great Job! wink.gif

Heh.. in the first picture I thought he was outside the tank. I was like "What.. the..??" Then I got to the second picture and realized its a little knick knack. hehehe. Yeah I didn't see the real lance at all, either.

I have those same big flowers in my guppy tank. Those are cool. I like your tank how it is now. And yeah, thats a big improvement from the first one. Wow. He must be one happy lil fishy.

Decorating and redecorating is fun, huh? Your tank does look nice and lived in now. I'm sure Lance is a happy camper. smile.gif
BTW I think this is Lance in this picture labeled 3rd stage in front of the plant?

Thanks everybody for the comments! smile.gif

Yep, that's Lance in the third pic (he's also in my sig). In the first two he wasn't in there yet because it was still cycling (which took forever), although the second pic is exactly the way it looked when I did put him in. Can you believe he lived in it like that for two months! In the fourth pic he's being camera shy.

VxShady: I can see how my artificial goldies outside the tank could be confusing. biggrin.gif

kortniee: I'm working on the "Gwen Phase." wink.gif

kewlpics.gif Looks awesome now....where did u get all your plants? I have been looking for some kewl decorations and have some ideas but just can't seem to stick with one concept?!?!?! I have seen the glow in the dark plants etc...they look cool but what do the fish think of those I woner?? hah.gif
I thought of going with a asian theme? My house is decorated in Buddahs and african decorations with dark red walls so I would love for the tank to stick out...I remeber seeing that tank on here that the Buddah was in and I thouhgt, hey thats perfect but I didn't want to take someone elses idea.....

Thanks fishrpets, sometimes he shows off for the camera, but usually he swims away from it. : )

froggydella: I think an Asian theme would be really cool for a tank- esp. a goldie tank since that's where they were domesticated. You could put in a Buddha or a Pagoda (i have no idea if that's how it's spelled) or maybe an Oriental dragon. A background (like a piece of cloth hung on the outside) that has an oriental design would be cool. I've also seen fake underwater Bonsai trees at Petco which might look good. I know the Buddha tank on here that you are talking about- it was really pretty. I doubt they'd mind you having a Buddha in your tank because we all kind of inspire each other on here and give each other ideas. If you had a doubt you could always ask them. Maybe they could even give you tips. : ) Oh and I bought my plants at Pet World- they're all plastic except the big flowy pink one- it's silk.

Whatta change from the beginning, Huh? biggrin.gif

Lance is a very lucky boy! heartpump.gif

By the way, I just noticed that your intake strainer seems to have gotten lost somewhere. I'd get that replace before anything bad happens. Goldies and intake tubes have quite a long history of clashes....... unsure.gif

Thanks Toothless. smile.gif Yeah, the filter didn't come with an intake strainer for some reason- I guess it was a fluke. I use one from an old filter- but it doesn't fit because it's a different brand. Lance's filter is a Penguin 170 and the intake strainer is off a Whisper or something, and it's too big. The only thing that holds it on is the suction from the filter pulling the water up the tube, and if it's bumped it falls off. sad.gif

Do you know where I could get another one? I can't find any replacement parts like that at the petstores around here.
toothless
Theres an easy and very cheap fix for that! biggrin.gif

Just go to your local hardware store and purchase 1 foot of "3/4 inch OD x 5/8 inch ID vinyl tubing".

Cut it so that you can push one end of it over the intake tube of the 170 and the other end over (or into) the strainer. I suggest cutting the tube so that the strainer sits all the way at the bottom of the tank. I think you'll find that it more than doubles the filters ability to pick poo and uneaten food off the bottom. This will be evident when you go to do your gravel vacs and theres a LOT less gunk coming up the tube. wink.gif

Good luck!

Paul

Thanks Toothless!

That's sounds like a very good idea. biggrin.gif

This is probably a dumb question, but what is OD and ID tubing?
fishrpets
And can I add to fishfelice's question Paul?-----do you mean to put the strainer under the gravel to touch the bottom of the tank itself or sit right on top of the gravel? I need to revamp my intake tube also but wasn't sure how and this idea sounds great. Thanks! smile.gif
toothless
Right on top of the gravel is perfect. wink.gif

Most people don't realize that this will help GREATLY in keeping the bottom free and clear of poo and uneaten food. I think once you set yours right, you will see a HUGE difference! biggrin.gif

OD stands for outer diameter and ID stands for inner diameter. They are measurements used to describe the size of tubing.

Good luck to you both!

Paul

Thanks! I will try that soon. biggrin.gif
