I've been wanting to get my fish a buddy...his tankmates all died and he's alone in a 46 gallon tank and seems lonely! I keep catching him staring at his reflection in the glass like he thinks it's another fish (or maybe he's just vain!) . He is a rescue from a feeder fish tank and is about 3 inches long...am I best sticking to another common or are there other types that would be compatible? I've heard that fancies tend to get stressed out with faster moving commons. 2 of my old fish were fancies and lasted for years with 2 commons but I'm told their death may have been due to stress. What fish would you recommend for this guy?

you can get any single tailed fish as a friend if you want, so that could be another common, comet or shubunkin. another interesting fish is the wakin. it is a goldfish shape but has a small doubletail. if you do get another please quarantine for around 6 weeks or you could bring in a disease.

Subies have my vote. They are like a fancy common, with flowing fins and a calico pattern. But i agree with sandy, quarentine!

Thanks Sandy and Meg! Yes, I already have my QT tank set up...after all of the problems I have had as of late, the last thing I want is a disease...this lone guy is my sole survivor!

I think you should either get another feeder fish, or a Shub. And after that if i were you id stop getting goldies, 46 gallons is such a good amount for the 2 single tail fish, they'll love it. And there going to become rather large lol.
Good luck,
Alex
