How big should his tank be?Will a 5 gallon be okay for the time being?My husband separated his common plec(at last)and set up a 5 gallon tank for him.I was wondering if that would be okay...Thanks for any input

How big is he?? Common plecos can easily get up to 12+ inches

common plecos grow slow, i have one thats about 2.1" and he changed about... 2-3cm over the last few months.

youre welcome. but they DO grow bigger, they just grow slow.

Hmm.... Im not sure about this. Do you have a filter and
heater in the tank?, i say in a few months you should update him
in a larger tank these guys can become way over 12 inches, if im not mistaken soemthing around 17 inches but im not so sure.
He should be put in a 50 gallon tropical tank.....

He used to be in my 55 gallon tank with my goldies and since I've read that they are not good together,I have convinced my husband to separate the pleco.We had no choice but to put him in a 5 gallon since that is the only spare tank we had at the time.Hmmm...I'll have to figure out what we should do.I can't set up another 55 for the pleco alone.

i might be the only one that have kept a common plec and GF together without problems, this is already half a year, still no problems.

We didn't have problems with them together but I was just scared of the pleco sucking GF slime coat at night especially now that he has grown bigger.

raith- when the pleco matures he will become a carnivore, if i were you i
wouldn't wait until something goes wrong.

Coyote-You Can maybe set up a 20 gallon rubbermaid container
just for him, he would love it,
