Hello everyone:

I bought my gf a lionhead the other day, currently in a cycled tank. It received tears on its tail when an inexperience store employee, who doesn't know what a lionhead is, dumped it in the fish bag. I think he was scared to touch the fish so he didn't want to hold onto the netting of the net and gentelly put it in, he doesn't even know how to pump oxygen into the bag. Anyways when I got home, I saw that the tips on each side of the tail were ripped off and there were blood streaks on the tail and pelvic fins. I added melafis and the fish is healing. The problem is after 2 days, most of the blood streaks are gone but there is one spt, rouchly 2mm long and 1mm wide on its tail. Sort of like blood clot up in that area, or a bruse (but its blood red colour). I touched it but it's like lodged inside the tail tissue.

Bascially I have a patch of blood that is on a previously injured tail that won't go away.

Treating with melafix, healing on fins but that patch of blood just grew bigger. Don't want it to turn to a tumor or something... unsure.gif

What should I do? sad.gif
Want to get that guy fired, shouldn't work in a fish store when he's scared of touching them

anyone can help?

Well, I think it is some kind of blood clot that came from a past injury and the injury did not heal like it was supposed to and did you say it is getting bigger? I will try to do some reasearch for you. I am not sure if the fish is going to live. I think he will so I wouldn't worry. I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

He's healthy and eating well, just the blood clot that worries me

thanks

Hi,
I had the very same thing happen to my ribbontail, Pegasus, when his tail was shredded by Harlequin. Harlequin was quickly moved to another tank, and Pegasus was left on his own for his tail to heal.

During the healing process, his tail developed red streaks with three lumps of blood clots at the end of his tail. I started to monitor my water conditions very carefully, and moved up to two water changes per week, from one. 30% each time.

His tail is almost now completely back to normal. That was just with perfect water conditions, no medication.

His tail was shredded around the 10th of September, and it took about a month for it to heal. The blood clots took the longest, but eventually just were absorbed. When they decided to heal, they went very quickly (within a week).

Hope this helps smile.gif

I posted another post on another goldfish board (vvvv Society) and they said what I thought they would say and they said that there is not much you can do and that your fish will be just fine. They said an aquarium salt bath should help the redness. wink.gif There wasn't much info on the web about that on the web though

Thanks guys, I'll keep the water conditions monitored, right now they are good. thanxsn.gif
