I was wondering if someone could help me? I have a new goldfish he is in a 20 gallon tank alone. I ran the tank for a month before i got him. I check the water I don't over feed and I have noticed that My Oranda has a white cotton like spot on his wen. Once he had this and it went away. I have had him for maybe two weeks now and suddenly it is back. He is active and he has a healthy appitite(he is always hungry but I don't over feed). I heard that when Oranda's wen grows sometimes it turns white in that spot also that they can get dirt in their wen. I am wondering if that is the case or if he has Ick. I am aware that ick is often deadly because a while back I lost some fish to it. So I am wondering if this is ick or if I am just panicing like a big dork.

Hey youre not a dork for worrying, you just care about your fish! I see the white spots on wens a lot, and its usually just new wen developing. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it doenst get worse.

Thank you for your reply. I lost 5 fish about a month ago to a combination of fin rot, ich, and ick. I tried so hard to save them but they died 1 at a time dropping off one each day for a week. it was awful. I got one of them from nooppee and think that he was the one that gave the illnesses to the others. and have had that bad past experience. I have been keeping fish since I was a little girl and I had never seen anything like that before.

But now I have this New fish and a tank that i planted plant bulbs in and have let them grow and let the tank run for 1 month. and Then I got this fish "Lint" and I am very protective of him because I love him. I do 30% water changes once a week and I am going to buy a PH tes kit as well as a new bubble want. I was almost sure that it was wen groth...thank you for your help and concern. I spoil him so much. rolleyes.gif

Hello smile.gif
It's natural to worry and I am sure almost everyone here spoils their fish smile.gif

Ich looks like little grains of salt or sugar on the fins and body, and the fish will noramlly "look" sick and have its fins clamped. With a developing wen, the white spot sometimes develops within one of the fissures (Lines) of the wen and looks a "little" fluffy.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Also, I have found that the little tufts in the wen will disappear within a few days smile.gif

Thank all of you for your replies. I think you are right. It must be wen growth. It is only located on one place in his when. What can you do to help their wen to grow? is there a special food? Thanks again!!! unsure.gif

Yes there are special foods for wen growth. Hikari makes one for lionheads and orandas.

Genetics play a part in wen growth, but the special food can't hurt. biggrin.gif

Good luck
