Yep, both of my ponds I did myself and I used heavey duty tarps as the liner.

ok, cool. Can you use tough garbage bags?

That's tricky. I know the bags you mean and they are pretty tough but they are not manufactured to withstand years of exposure to water and UV rays from sunlight. They would probably do fine in the short term (up to 6 months - just my opinion) but I'd be having nightmares about it.

When I was 10 I made a pond like that for tadpoles in our club house in the bush reserve. I just used regular plastic bags, it only lasted a few days. Poor wittle tadpoles. sad.gif

The liner is extremely important, if you go cheap you may be sorry in the end. I would recommend you use 45 mil EPDM, that is because I know for a fact it is good stuff. BUT I've read that Xavan liner is just as good and half as thick. Has a 25 year gaurantee. Here is a link for the Xavan liner http://www.azponds.com/pond_liner.htm (plus it's not as expensive)

I also recently read that there is a spray in rubber liner. You can just spray it on the dirt! It is gauranteed & supposedly is the best thing out there today. Don't know where to get this stuff though? I only saw that you can have someone put it in for you. Certainly there must be a way to do it yourself though.

Lozzy, I think one of the mods should edit your threads about your ponds and pin a permanent thread of all your photos - it's a visual step by step guide on "how to .." It's looking great btw!
